Rush Limbaugh says McCain has “evolved” on oil drilling
June 17, 2008
June 17, 2008 – On his program today, Rush Limbaugh (24/7 members may listen) got excited when McCain spoke to oil executives and clearly did an about face. He said he is going to call for an end to the ban on off shore drilling. Why not? China is doing it off the coast of Cuba, not 50 miles from our own coastline.
Of course, this comes after last week’s speech when he said oil executives’ profits were obscene. And it comes on the heels of his stance on global warming legislation. So we will see if he really means it. Perhaps he has heard the outcry from the US Citzens and wants to be elected.
In its own way, politics has its own type of “market” economics. Think about it like this. In a free market, profit is the strategy. In politics it is getting re-elected. That’s the number one goal. Many politicians are for and against things, but generally they bend with the will of their constituents, sad as that sounds. Anyway, they can be swayed by “market” forces of the voters if they feel they need to do something to get re-elected. Gasoline is going to be one of those issues. Afterall, very few people are against the use of gasoline. That is, unless anti-oil is one of your principles. In that case, as with many politicians, they will vote on the side of Big Environment every time, regardless of the consequences at the ballot box. Unfortunately, there are a lot of places where it doesn’t matter how they vote (like Massachusetts), they’ve still got a lifetime job.
Even Greenies like Ariana Huffington fly in jets and love their SUVs. So talk against oil companies is cheap. But when push comes to shove, petroleum still runs our economy and keeps the country moving and they know that. So being green does not necessarily rule out the use of gasoline. We can attack pollution on other fronts. That’s why we hope McCain stays true to his word and doesn’t flip flop on this issue. If he promises to expand drilling he will be swept into the Whitehouse in ’09.
Here is part of the article from Rush’s website:
Everybody’s all excited here. Senator McCain is going to give a speech today down there to the oil company executives whose profits he thinks are obscene. He’s “going to call for an end to the federal ban on offshore drilling and offering an aggressive response to high gasoline prices. This immediately drew the ire of environmental groups.” Screw them! Who cares? You know, there’s this story here — and I had this in the stack yesterday, and I didn’t get to it. It’s on the ABC News site, but it’s from our old buddies at the Associated Press, and it actually ran over the weekend, a couple days ago. It ran on Sunday. “Less than a month after declaring polar bears a threatened species because of global warming, the Bush administration is giving oil companies permission to annoy and potentially harm them in the pursuit of oil and natural gas.”
We love Rush’s humor when he starts talking about polar bears and spotted owls annoying us because they keep us from our own resources! No McCain fan, he! But if true, this is good news about Presidential hopeful John McCain.

Got something to say?

Air pollution – stats per US state and county…

I am tired of people who use the CO2 argument. You obviously are spouting some propagada that you’ve heard over the years and believed. Read the book Climate Confusion by Roy Spencer and then tell me we have a problem with carbon dioxide. The percentages are so small in the make up of the atmosphere that even a LARGE increase would be negligible.
Are you aware that trees and plants need CO2 to produce oxygen? What do you have against trees? As for pollution, I’ll grant that areas like Los Angeles have problems, but we have been at this for over 30 years and there has been no improvement? Maybe we are not the cause!!!
