The problem with the country moving left is the programs are well-intentioned, but seldom work. However, once they are in place it is impossible to get rid of them. Look at Social Security and you get my point. It’s really hard to give the public something, get them comfortable taking the benefits, then try and reform the program. Look at all the turmoil over the Republican’s plan to bring in 401K plans and how seniors were afraid they were going to lose their Social Security benefits.
But now we are having hard times. People have had it so good for so long that they were willing to overlook some issues of government hypocrisy. But today California State representatives were called out by the news about their wasteful trips home and billing taxpayers for them! One woman (unidentified) flew home to go to a Justin Timberlake concert with her daughter and tried to say she was meeting with an energy company. The energy company denied the meeting took place.
Republican Central Committee in Marin County, California, was well attended this month, and I believe we can thank Obama and the Democrats in the House and Senate for that. Nothing like a recession and massive government spending to bring people out with torches and pitchforks! We’ll see if it makes a difference.

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has named Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) Porker of the Month for his arrogant rationalization of why the American people cannot be trusted with their own money. On February 6, Sen. Kerry spoke on the Senate floor in support of the $787 billion economic stimulus package. In his speech he said, “I have heard a lot of talk about we ought to do a tax cut…If you put a tax cut into the hands of either a business or an individual today, there is no guarantee they are going to invest their money…in the United States. They are free to go to invest anywhere they want, if they choose to invest…The fact is none of those people are guaranteed to invest that money in any of the new projects that we are. So government, yes government, has the ability to be able to make a decision that the private sector won’t necessarily make today.” For his casual infantilization of American taxpayers and for being the chief spokesperson of the new Nanny State on Steroids, CAGW names Sen. My wife has had it. She says she’s tired of fighting everyone. That’s the problem though, isn’t it? They wear us down and wear us down until we’re tired of fighting. We just want to live our lives and have government leave us alone. Sacramento City Government is being totally unreasonable about her property on the north side of town. Cities are in financial trouble, so they are taking it out on the property owners. Everyone is running out of money.
I own units in Guerneville, CA and the Russian River agency that handles the sewers wants to have a huge rate increase. Everyone is running out of money. Is this my fault? NO. I live within my means. But apparently government doesn’t have to. And our Federal Government is leading the way!
So here’s the deal. The good news is that Democrats who own everything right now are overstepping. It’s not their fault. They are power hungry by nature. Otherwise they’d adopt the fair tax. With that said, it’s a good thing because people are getting outraged. Even people who voted Democrat in the last election (probably because they felt they had no real choice) are upset at the out of control spending and the nationalizing of so many private sector businesses. That’s not what America is all about. But there’s one problem…
It’s tough to roll back government once it’s in. Like a tick that’s gotten under the skin, it is almost impossible to remove. Look at social security. It was only meant by FDR to be a temporary solution. Look at it now. It has ballooned beyond what was ever imagined… and getting bigger every day. That’s our challenge. Either keeping it from happening or rolling it back if it does.
California Unemployment Rises to Double Digits
Governor Schwarzenegger says the stimulus will help as soon as it arrives. Problem with his theory is, who would trade unemployment for a shovel to dig ditches? Not me. I am a white collar office type worker. There is no way any of that stimulus pork is going to create a job that I am going to get. And people who are blue collar and already on unemployment are not going to go back to work for low wages if they can get paid for doing nothing… and I don’t blame them!

Obama and Democrats Are On Notice
We fiscal conservatives don’t believe this economic plan of yours will work. Even so, it is not up to the principles the nation was founded on. Nowhere did the framers ever expect that one class would work and pay taxes to support another. And it’s unbelievable that such a great country as the United States has fallen for it!
By singling out various groups of people, WalMart, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Big Oil, Big Pharmaceutical, The Rich and so on, you are taking one group of people and/or businesses (after all, businesses are run by and employ people) and targeting them. While you confiscate taxes from them, you turn around and hand it over to those special interests of yours so that you will get re-elected and your party will stay in power forever.
What is this about Obama going to bring us together? How is playing class envy or pitting people against businesses bringing us together? We are all Americans. We have a great country! We want to keep it that way! And it will take all of us to turn this around! We are the ones who make this country work, not the politicians! It’s time to stop spending.
Everyone is being hurt. By over taxing big businesses, you are taking capital out of the system that would be used to expand and create jobs, all while trying to help the little guy who needs that job. Unintended consequences. And where is the compassion? I heard a woman on the radio today that makes more money form unemployment than she would if she worked. However, she PAYS TAXES ON HER UNEMPLOYMENT! Here she is, barely making it, and our compassionate government is making her pay income taxes! And social security tax! And disability tax! If you think they are out to help the little guy, you are mistaken.
Here is a note I wrote to our Marin County Republican group after the Central Committee meeting last night. It explains the problem we have all across the country in the party… liberals and moderates!

Yes, I know. The chairman just got installed at the last meeting I went to. But I think the sentiment is that we need some strong conservative leadership and that is what is long overdue. Morgan Kelly, the past chairman, also voted against the censure along with the blond woman who admitted she was a moderate (whatever that means). Like you said to me last night, we don’t need Democrat-lite. That’s what we had with McCain and is the reason we lost the election. He was chosen by open primaries early on by liberals and moderates as well as independents (probably some Democrats in there too). And that’s what Moldonado wants to do with our California primaries too. This is why he needs to join another party. Even if it’s unlikely to get passed, we shouldn’t stand to have people representing us who even think this way.
Back to our chairman, I spoke with my good friend and district representative, Frank Tallarida, after the meeting. He tells me a lot of the appointments are made to those who have been there the longest, not what they believe. Are we going to be like the post office or the education system where tenure rules? Even with only two months, I am not sure our chairman has what it takes to get the party back on track. This is no time for weenie moderates. We need people with passion and principles. Not just someone who wants to be chairman because it will look cool on her resume (no offense). I sounds like one of her pet projects was this fundraising thing they announced at the last 2 meetings. Problem is, if we don’t have an issue or two to support, why would I waste my money to build the committee coffers?
I just saw Tim’s post and he makes good points. Apparently turn out has been poor at most of these meetings, so the representatives were overwhelmed when they didn’t get to shoot through their agenda and get out of there before 8:30. And I think you’re right. We should tackle ONE ISSUE AT A TIME. Everyone is always trying to “eat the whole elephant” at once and that’s where we lose our message. On taxes, either you’re liberal or you’re conservative. Either you’re for higher taxes, more spending and bigger government or you’re not. There is no place for a moderate in that discussion.
This is the perfect time to take a stand as we have tax and spend liberals running the country. We can actually show that Republicans are different… and if they are not they get censured! Moldonado and his 5 other buddies are giving the GOP a bad name. What needs to be made clear (and we did it last night) is that they don’t represent OUR party! If that offends some people, then they don’t belong in the GOP. And you make a good point. Is it on the record who opposed the censure? I want those names and have THEM held accountable.
Sorry to do a little rambling, but I am in the middle of launching a new business and I sure as hell don’t want Obama and his pals taking everything I earn to give to someone who can not or will not make their mortgage payments! I’m fighting mad!
The good news is that a lot of people showed up for this meeting where usually only the representatives are there. That means people are mad and not going to take it anymore. You want sustainable energy, how about a sustainable country? This spending has got to stop and the best way is at the state level!

World Net Daily, February 24, 2009: Illegal aliens can apply for mortgage relief under the Obama administration’s $275 billion plan, according to immigration experts and a group the government will use to help homeowners modify loans.
Steven Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, D.C., told WND approximately 1 million households headed by illegal immigrants acquired mortgages through the beginning of 2007, before the housing bubble burst.
“There is no legal prohibition against illegal immigrants owning homes,” he said, “and in most cases mortgage lenders will accept a taxpayer ID or a Matricula Consular card issued by a Mexican Consulate office as identification to illegal immigrants from Mexico.”
Chad Buchanan, a manager at SaveMyHomeUSA – a group cooperating with the Obama administration that assists homeowners facing foreclosure – told WND illegal immigrants who own a home “could certainly apply under our program.”
“We don’t target or go after illegal immigrant customers,” he said. “But if an illegal immigrant owns a home legally, we could try to help them under our program.
SaveMyHomeUSA is seeking job applications for loan modification processors to work in the Obama administration mortgage modification program.
“A lot of mortgage modifiers out there never ask about the legal immigration status of the homeowner, and we do not ask either,” Buchanan said. “This is the first time I’ve had that question asked. All we are looking to do is to modify the current note, regardless what the legal immigration status of the client is.”

Hillary’s Seat Up For Special Election

The kicker? The Democrat who is running in this special election for Hillary’s seat, Scott Murphy, has $21,550 in unpaid taxes!!! Is anyone surprised by this? I am all for lower taxes and will fight anyone who tries to raise them. But Democrats have been all for raising taxes on the rich, yet refuse to pay their fair share when it comes time. That doesn’t mean that I am okay with Republicans who don’t pay theirs either, but it is certainly not as common as the current crop of legislators and advisers that we seem to be hearing about these days. – FedUpEditor
Mark Williams here – the co-Vice Chairman of the conservative Our Country PAC, and boy do I have some good news for you! A brand new poll released today shows that we are poised to take a seat in Congress that had been held by the Democrats and turn it into a seat held by a conservative Republican. The Republican, Jim Tedisco, is up 12% over his opponent, Democrat Scott Murphy.
The poll is for the 20th congressional district in New York, where a Special Election will take place on March 31st to fill the vacancy created when the Democratic congresswoman was appointed to fill Hillary Clinton’s U.S. Senate seat.

We’re going to win this Special Election for the conservative Republican candidate and hand a defeat to the tax-and-spend Democrats, just as we did when Saxby Chambliss won the Special Election in the Georgia U.S. Senate race in December.
Democrat candidate Murphy has just returned from a trip to Washington D.C. where he was seeking support from Obama’s political machine. And get this: Democrat candidate Murphy, like so many of Obama’s other political friends and allies, has $21,550 in unpaid taxes that he still owes!
But Democrat Murphy says he has no problem supporting Obama’s plans to spend trillions of your taxpayer dollars – including a new $1 TRILLION tax hike he’s proposed.
On the other hand, the Republican candidate is someone who I’ve known for over a decade and he has proven time and time again to be not just on the side of the taxpayers but also a skilled legislator with vast experience successfully promoting conservative and common sense principles in an extremely liberal and corrupt environment.
I’ve hosted a radio show in this very area and developed a close friendship with many listeners there. My Upstate NY listeners and I have worked with Jim Tedisco on critical tax reform and other issues over the years and we know we can trust him!
Jim and his staff have worked dilligently to try and fix the out-of-control patch-work of taxes and stem the torrent of tax dollars lost to waste, fraud, foolishness and outright graft.
As a congressman he will stand just as strongly for Right and common sense, as well as strive to defend American Principles as he has done his entire career.

How long did it take the press to dump Bush’s approval rating into the toilet? Months? Years? Remember after September 11, 2001, his rating was sky high. After a long litany of negative press, they managed to take his approval ratings to one of the lowest in history.
On the other hand, look at Obama’s coverage. And in one month, Gallup reports his approval has dropped to under 60%… all by himself! Now I am not one to put a whole lot of stock in polls particularly because the pulbic as a whole is pretty easily influenced. However, given the puff coverage the press has given Obama and not challenged him on anything, I am surprised people aren’t buying it.
Even conservatives I know liked Obama’s speech earlier this week, but why wouldn’t they when the messages was clearly remiscient of Reagan! But I was told as a kid, don’t listen to what people say, but watch what they do! And Obama is a socialist, clear and simply.
What else do you call it when he wants to put banks and mortgages under control of the federal government? I’d call him facist, but that has such a negative context (though it’s technically true). What else do you call it when he wants to take from one group to give to another?
Look at his latest promise to balance the budget by the end of his first term. HOW? By spending more money than any past president in history? Without raising taxes on the poor and middle class? IMPOSSIBLE! The numbers don’t work.
Rush Limbaugh in his second hour today covered the mathematics of what Obama is proposing and cited a Wall Street Journal article (which I could not find… they might link to it on Rush’s site in today’s update) that broke down potential numbers, and there is no way given 2007 IRS statistics this could work to pay off the deficit.
Biden is a Liar
What a glittering jewel of colossal ignorance we have as our Vice-President in Joe Biden. Obama made his speech. Governor Bobby Jindahl of Louisiana made the rebuttal speech for the Republicans, and Joe Biden LIED in an interview saying that it was hypocritical for a governor whose state lost more jobs to be criticizing President Obama’s plan… NOT TRUE! LAWorks.net February report shows jobless claims continue to DECREASE! Can this bozo say anything he wants without being challenged? Apparently so. Where is the honesty in the press?
Freedom of Speech – The Unfairness Doctrine
Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Dick Durbin [clueless] is introducing legislation that Obama promised he would not support in the senate. It would KILL talk radio, the only conservative bastion in the press. It is totally unfair, and we need to defeat it. Our tax dollars are being spent to promote this GAG BILL. Some have called it Hush Rush legislation. It used to be called the Fairness Doctrine, since marketing would get public support behind it. After all, who would be against fairness? Remember Animal Farm? Some animals are more equal than others!

World Net Daily, February 24, 2009 – Oklahoma’s House of Representatives is the first legislative body to pass a state sovereignty resolution this year under the terms of the Tenth Amendment.
The Oklahoma House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 1003 Feb. 18 by a wide margin, 83 to 13, resolving, “That the State of Oklahoma hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States.”
The language of HJR 1003 further serves notice to the federal government “to cease and desist, effectively immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers.”
The sponsor of the resolution, state Rep. Charles Key, told WND the measure was a ‘big step toward addressing the biggest problem we have in this country – the federal government violating the supreme law of the land.”
“The Constitution either means what it says, or it doesn’t mean anything at all,” Key said. “The federal government must honor and obey the Constitution, just like the states and this citizens of this country are obligated to do, or our system of government begins to fall apart.”
The Ninth Amendment reads, “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.” The Tenth Amendment specifically provides, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
As WND reported, eight states have introduced resolutions declaring state sovereignty under the Ninth and Tenth Amendments to the Constitution: Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Washington.
Analysts expect 12 additional states may see similar measures introduced this year, including Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Nevada, Maine and Pennsylvania.

All we hear these days is whining from reckless home borrowers and their banks.
But did you know that renters are 32 percent of American households? And that homes in foreclosure are less than 2 percent?
So why is Congress rushing to bailout high-flying borrowers and their lenders with our tax dollars?
Unfortunately, renters aren’t as good at politics as the small minority of homeowners (and their bankers) who are in trouble. We don’t have lobbyists in Washington, DC. We don’t get a tax deduction for our rent and we don’t get sweetheart government loans.
Quite simply, we are just Angry Renters. And now it is our time to be heard: no government bailouts!

Chicken or the Egg?
I am watching a special on the octuplet mom. As a believer in freedom, several thoughts have come to me. Shouldn’t a woman be able to have as many kids as she wants? Isn’t this a free country? But then I think why should we as taxpayers have to foot the bill, as we surely will. She says she’s a good writer and plans to write a book on the experience to pay for the kids. She has 14 kids. Where will she find the time???
So as a fiscal conservative, I wonder what would have happened if she wasn’t able to get welfare for the children, would she have chosen to have that many kids anyway? Of course, I don’t think the kids should suffer because of the stupidity of their mother, but then again, perhaps had the welfare not been there, she may have not made that choice. But it is, so she did.
Obama Supporters are Passionate
We call it symbolism over substance. In AA they call it frothy emotional appeal. No matter what you call it, Obama’s followers are passionate and loyal. He can do no wrong… in their eyes.
A caller on Sean Hannity’s show yesterday makes my point. He is an independent business man who runs a restaurant and believes that the stimulus package will be good for the economy. What Hannity missed was the chance to ask the caller if he knew what was in the bill.
You see, I think people hear stimulus and think, “Great. We need that.” But what it really is, is a pork bill that will do nothing to stimulate the economy. The caller said that GDP had fallen and government needed to make up that difference to get things rolling again. He should study economics.
Like the guy who commented on our site recently, he doesn’t understand that in business, people borrow money to provide goods or services that they then sell at a profit. This creates capital. Since government generates nothing of its own, it sucks capital from the market in the form of taxes and then redistributes it. In essence, it is creating nothing new. That is why this stimulus will not work in the long run.
Lying by Statistics
Watch the news tonight when they talk about the stock market. Instead of talking numbers like they did during the Bush years, they are now saying the market gained or lost in percentage points. What they hope is that you will not notice that if the market goes down 2% one day and up 2% the next, that is not a wash. It is still a net LOSS!
Bush was in office and the stock market, near the end of his term, started to fall over 300 points! Crisis! Crisis! Now Obama is in office and the stock market dropped 3%. Look at this example.
- If the stock market is at 8000 and it drops 300 that’s a 3.75% drop and is now at 7700
- At 7700 and the market goes up 3.75% it will be at 7998.75
- Since October 2007, the market plunged 49.8%
- Last week alone we had major losses in the market
- Before the speech last night, the market went up yesterday
- After the speech, the market is down almost 200 points at the time of this writing
Where is the confidence? Despite the applause he got from his sycophantic audience in the chamber last night, the people who really make the country work are not impressed. This is a good sign.
Obama Must be Positive
Obama has been preaching gloom and doom since he was elected. Now it’s his economy and advisers are telling him to sound more positive. My belief is that his negativity shows how he really feels about this economy. He knows his policies will do more to move the liberal agenda forward than it will help get us out of this mess. He even said that he’s afraid his legacy will be the bad economy. So then do something about it!!!
I hate to see people suffer, but it seems to be the only way to make Americans wake up. Policiticans can put as much of a positive spin on things as they want. The media can hype the crap out of a bad idea. But people see the results and things are not getting better. All the hype in the world can not sell a bad product.
It has been said that no person or nation has ever spent its way to prosperity.
