Daily Rant – Part 2, February 27, 2009
February 27, 2009
My wife has had it. She says she’s tired of fighting everyone. That’s the problem though, isn’t it? They wear us down and wear us down until we’re tired of fighting. We just want to live our lives and have government leave us alone. Sacramento City Government is being totally unreasonable about her property on the north side of town. Cities are in financial trouble, so they are taking it out on the property owners. Everyone is running out of money.
I own units in Guerneville, CA and the Russian River agency that handles the sewers wants to have a huge rate increase. Everyone is running out of money. Is this my fault? NO. I live within my means. But apparently government doesn’t have to. And our Federal Government is leading the way!
So here’s the deal. The good news is that Democrats who own everything right now are overstepping. It’s not their fault. They are power hungry by nature. Otherwise they’d adopt the fair tax. With that said, it’s a good thing because people are getting outraged. Even people who voted Democrat in the last election (probably because they felt they had no real choice) are upset at the out of control spending and the nationalizing of so many private sector businesses. That’s not what America is all about. But there’s one problem…
It’s tough to roll back government once it’s in. Like a tick that’s gotten under the skin, it is almost impossible to remove. Look at social security. It was only meant by FDR to be a temporary solution. Look at it now. It has ballooned beyond what was ever imagined… and getting bigger every day. That’s our challenge. Either keeping it from happening or rolling it back if it does.
California Unemployment Rises to Double Digits
Governor Schwarzenegger says the stimulus will help as soon as it arrives. Problem with his theory is, who would trade unemployment for a shovel to dig ditches? Not me. I am a white collar office type worker. There is no way any of that stimulus pork is going to create a job that I am going to get. And people who are blue collar and already on unemployment are not going to go back to work for low wages if they can get paid for doing nothing… and I don’t blame them!
