Daily Rant – March 31, 2009
March 31, 2009
I have taken a few days off so that I could collect my thoughts about what is going on. It is hard to not have a feeling of conspiracy when the right thing to do is right in front of us, and the government (both sides) refuse to it.
The Federal government has taken over the auto industry for the express purpose of getting rid of SUVs and trucks. You don’t think so? Look at what has happened. GM makes 22 or so models of vehicles, 12 of which make a profit. Of those 12 most are big trucks and SUVs. Those models are being phased out in favor of hybrids and smaller cars… ones that don’t sell.
For years people said GM was its own problem by not building cars people want. Well, maybe it was because of the CAFE standards that forced the car company to build cars people don’t want is the problem. Now that government owns 90% of the car company through the bailout, they are in charge of running the company… and they are deciding to phase out the money makers… What does that tell you?
Outraged yet? You should be. On to the local level. I am trying to get on the Republican Central Committee in Marin County, California. You wouldn’t believe how hard it has been to get a seat on a committee that does not have enough representatives to begin with. In the past it has been because of lack of interest. Not so.
Recently Republicans have been coming out of the woodwork willing to take positions and are being stonewalled by the leadership. It’s sad, really. You would think those in power would welcome the new blood. However, what is happening is they are dragging their feet in filling the openings in order to “stack the deck” with people of like minds.
Why would they do this? It makes no sense. We have never had a better opportunity to rebuild the party, and get some new blood in. More on this later.
