Tax increases were on the California ballot and got defeated and they still won’t listen. Now, after promising to NOT raise taxes on the lower and middle class, Democrats are talking about taxing your health benefits you receive from your company. Obama promised over and over that he would cut taxes for the 95% of Americans making less than $250,000 per year during the campaign last year, in the debates, in speeches and now he lobbied for and got step one of his historic regressive tax increase on 100% of America, even those not paying income tax.

He pledged that his tax increases would only apply to the top 5% of Americans making over $250,000. Yet Obama fully supported passage of the House “Energy TAX” bill that taxes everyone that just flips on a light switch.

Al Gore was on the phone personally lobbying to pass the bill for his corporate clients lining his pockets with greenbacks.
The Democratic “Energy Tax” legislation is designed to raise the prices of oil, gasoline, natural gas, coal, home heating oil, and anything else that produces carbon dioxide emissions.
This is just the beginning of higher taxes for 95% of Americans. Everything is on the table as tax increases are needed to finance Obama’s new national health care entitlement program, including the announcement last week of a tax on employer provided health benefits.
The Washington Post reported that Obama and Congressional Democrats are considering a NEW FEDERAL SALES TAX or value added tax (VAT). Follow the lead of tax and spend socialists in France and the rest of Europe where VAT taxes are embedded in the prices of goods sold. You will pay for it everyday and the price of everything you buy will go up.

OBAMA ALREADY LOBBYING THE SENATE
President Obama called on senators to disregard what he called the “misinformation” offered by critics of his energy bill, which passed the House of Representatives late Friday night despite GOP predictions that it will further damage the economy.
“We must not be prisoners of the past,” he said in his radio and Internet address. “Don’t believe the misinformation out there that suggests there is somehow a contradiction between investing in clean energy and economic growth. It’s just not true.”

Democrats pushing the bill have admitted that the total tax costs per family will increase. But the whole purpose of the bill is to raise the price of using carbon-based energy to reduce its use, 17% by 2020 and 83% by 2050. That is probably going to require even more than $3,000 per family per year.
Obama’s Carbon Disaster
Obama fanatically believes in a carbon disaster and The Great Energy Lie – that Energy Emissions Cause Global Warming. Obama ignores sound science and the United Nations own data that the earth has been in a 10 year cooling period said of the bill’s passage “There is no longer a debate about whether carbon pollution is placing our planet in jeopardy. It’s happening.”
The bill will also result in millions of lost jobs and a weakened economy due to high cost energy. Remaining manufacturing in America will flee overseas. The coal industry will be phased out.
Peter Ferrara of FoxNews.com said “The global warming fantasy is intellectually collapsing. Global atmospheric temperatures measured most accurately by satellites have shown declining temperatures for the past 11 years, with the decline accelerating most recently.” This in spite of record increases of the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
China Rejects “Energy Tax” bill will not reduce global warming
Obama is on his own as countries around the world such as France, Poland, Australia, the Czech Republic, and New Zealand are turning against the cap-and-trade “Energy Tax” regressive policies for their own countries, and China that Obama is borrowing 50 cents of every dollar he spend from and India have rejected the idea for their emerging economies all along.
Even global warming advocates admit that the bill passed by the House will have no significant effect in reducing global warming, despite all of its costs for the America people.
With these and other developments on the horizon Obama is poised to break the central promise of his campaign, which took him straight to the White House. Did Obama win last year on false pretenses? Perhaps he might remember this cautionary tale: When the first President Bush broke his campaign pledge not to raise taxes in 1990, he was booted out in the next election.

API Energy Survey

I hope you had a great weekend despite House passage of the Waxman-Markey bill. Now the focus will move to the Senate where Barbara Boxer reportedly plans to hold mark-up of a similar bill at the end of July.
I’m writing to you today, however, about another issue. This morning API released the results of its third annual “Energy IQ” survey, intended to gauge Americans’ knowledge about energy issues. Considering the gravity of some of the energy proposals being debated on Capitol Hill right now, the results are particularly striking.
While the survey revealed that Americans now recognize the United States will need more energy in the coming years, respondents vastly underestimated the amount of oil and natural gas that will be needed to meet that demand. Conversely, respondents overestimated the role that renewable energy sources will play in meeting future demand, the amount of oil the U.S. imports from the Middle East, and oil and natural gas industry earnings.

The third annual Energy IQ survey, conducted for the American Petroleum Institute (API) by Harris Interactive®, comes as a new administration and Congress are pursuing energy and climate policies that will determine America’s economic competitiveness for years to come.
In comparing the new results to surveys from previous years, Harris found that Americans are more aware of how current policies limit domestic oil and natural gas production, but they also continue to subscribe to common, yet critical, misperceptions about how the industry operates and the energy we’ll need in the future.
Demand: Americans understand that we need more energy to grow our economy, but they continue to underestimate the amount of oil and natural gas we’ll need in years to come.
- While the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects U.S. energy demand will increase 9 percent during the next 20 years, only 5 percent of respondents chose the correct answer. The majority overestimated this number, believing that U.S. demand would increase 16 to 21 percent.
- When asked about the role fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal will play in meeting global energy demand, only 10 percent of respondents answered correctly that fossil fuels will meet 85 percent of this demand. This is the second consecutive year this number has dropped even though EIA figures for future U.S. reliance on fossil fuels have risen by five percent since 2008.
Supply: Americans overestimate the amount of oil and natural gas supplied to the U.S. by the Persian Gulf countries and underestimate the amount that is supplied from North America.
- According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), 12 percent of the oil consumed last year in the U.S. came from the Persian Gulf countries. Only 7 percent of respondents chose correctly, while more than 40 percent believed that over 30 percent of our oil supply came from the Persian Gulf.
- Fifty-three percent of respondents believed that Saudi Arabia was the largest U.S. supplier of imported crude oil. In fact, according to the DOE, Canada is our largest supplier.
Taxes: Americans underestimate the industry’s contributions to the U.S. economy through jobs and taxes, and overestimate the industry’s profits.
- Only 15 percent of respondents knew that six million Americans are employed directly or indirectly by the oil and natural gas industry.
- Only 9 percent of respondents knew that oil companies pay more than 40 percent in income taxes as a share of their income. The majority thought that it was less than 30 percent, and one-third of all respondents believed companies pay less than 15 percent.
- Similarly, when asked how much the oil and natural gas industry paid in taxes over the past three years, only 10 percent of respondents answered correctly—$242 billion. One quarter of respondents believed that the U.S. oil and natural gas industry contributed less than $100 billion.
- More than 40 percent of respondents believed that the oil and natural gas industry earn more than 20 cents per every dollar of sales. In fact, the industry earns just below 6 cents on every dollar.

The Waxman-Markey bill was barely passed in the house on Friday, despite our best efforts. Even though may promises have been made by Obama and his administration (he is for this legislation even though it originated in the house) all of them have been broken.
During his campaign and early in his administration he promised he would have a more open administration and give the public at least 5 days to read the legislation before the congress would vote on it. The Cap and Trade bill wasn’t even written in its final version before it was strong-armed through the house by speaker Pelosi.
Waxman-Markey will add carbon taxes to energy companies that will make it impossible to do business in the US anymore. What is going to happen when people start losing their jobs because energy companies are going overseas? And what happens when those regulations cause our energy costs to go up?
Remember Obama promised he would lower taxes on the poor. What he didn’t tell you was that this legislation will get the money on the other end. People might have more money in their paycheck, though that is debatable when all is said and done, but the extra will be eaten up in higher energy like natural gas and electric, gasoline and so on. This translates into higher food prices too because the cost of bringing it to market will cost more in transportation costs. These idiots in congress never see the big picture.

If it’s such a great health plan, why aren’t congress and the senate going to participate in it? It’s like the retirement program they have for themselves. They don’t participate in Social Security or Medicare, they have these Cadillac programs that follow them after they leave office until they die.
Before we accept any government health plan we must ask our congressmen and women, “If this program is so good, will you be using it too?” If not then the question must be asked, “Why not?”
If they don’t think it’s good enough for the people in the house and senate, then how can it possibly be good for us? Think about that. Ted Kennedy put this provision in. Had he had to live by it he’d be dead now!

API Opposes Carbon Tax!

The media are handicapping the upcoming vote on the Waxman-Markey bill as though it were The Kentucky Derby. In today’s 24-hour-a-day news cycle, reporters, anchors and pundits are asking whether House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has the votes for passage, whether the bill could be more costly than previously anticipated by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), and they are dissecting President Obama’s comments delivered in the Rose Garden this afternoon.
Speaking to reporters, the President called on members of Congress to support the bill, calling it “balanced and sensible” and “a jobs bill.” The President added that the cost of the bill would amount to only the price of one postage stamp a day for each American.
API’s careful examination of the Waxman-Markey bill has reached markedly different conclusions. Here are the facts as we see them:
- The CBO’s analyses of the bill greatly underestimate the potential cost. When the flaws in the analyses are corrected, the studies indicate the cost could be more than $278 a month per average American household.
- A recent study by CRA International for the National Black Chamber of Commerce estimates the bill could cause a net loss of more than two million jobs a year.
- The bill is not “balanced.” Waxman-Markey provides only two percent of free emission allowances to refiners, but holds them responsible for 44 percent of all carbon emissions. This inequitable system of allocations will have a disproportionately adverse impact on consumers as well as producers of gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, crude oil and natural gas.
Warren Buffett, one of the most successful and respected voices on the economy today, calls the bill a tax. In a CNBC interview yesterday, Buffett said:
“…it’s a huge tax and there’s no sense calling it anything else. I mean, it is a tax. And it’s a fairly regressive tax. If we buy permits, essentially, at our utilities, that goes right into the bills of the utility customers and an awful lot of people in Iowa, in Oregon, and Utah, and places where we are, very poor people are going to pay a lot more money for electricity. So I think that can be improved.”
API believes the Waxman-Markey bill is too flawed to be improved, and should be replaced with legislation that actually helps the environment without further damaging the economy.

Heritage Foundation Tells Truth About Gov’t Health Care

Heritage Foundation has several article written by doctors and economists who have studied congress’s health care reform package. Besides the hidden piece written by old Senator Kennedy that exempts Senators and Congressmen from their own plan that they are foisting upon us, the numbers also do not add up. Is that any surprise? Budget estimates are always understated in order to get legislation passed and is always found to be much more than originally estimated. Not only that, but it never works like they planned either.
Heritage says, “The government cannot bend the health care cost curve from Washington without resorting to arbitrary caps and price controls that always lead to a reduction in the willing suppliers of services and waiting lists.” What does this mean in straight talk? Government will put limits on procedures and doctors will choose not to do them. Less doctors means longer lines for those who do. Read more here.
Heritage says, “Some of the projected savings for financing Obama’s health agenda, including the creation of a new public plan, would come by squeezing savings out of Medicare. At a time when Medicare is dangerously close to bankruptcy, it is short sighted to funnel funds into the creation of another government-run program instead of shoring up Medicare.” This means they are going to take one bankrupt program and steal the money from it to fund another new program that will eventually also go bankrupt. Seniors should be worried about Obama’s statement that instead of a pace-maker for a 100 year old patient perhaps they should be given pain killers and be left to die. So much for hope and change.
