Daily Rant – July 31, 2009

July 31, 2009

When did the independent media become the state run media? At what point did they shed their principle of being unbiased and go gung ho over to supporting liberals. The founders gave us free speech in the first amendment. That being said, what is happening is the media lying to cover up a bad presidency trying to pass bad policies.

They are not even hiding it anymore. Andrea Mitchell was talking about the health care program and how unpopular it is saying people were resisting it and do not like it even if it might be good for them. When did the media get so smart to know what’s good for all of us? Especially Andrea Mitchell (NBC News).

I think it started with Walter Kronkite. As soon as he presented “this reporter’s opinion” was that we should pull out of Viet Nam in the middle of a NEWS cast (not an editorial) things started to change. As with creeping socialism, more and more young people get into journalism in order to change the world… not report what happened, when it happened and who it happened to.

Health care needs to be defeated. People’s instincts that government will do a poor job of running health care is right on the money. Look at how they screwed up “Cash for Klunkers”! After a couple of months they ran out of money… our money. What people don’t see is that this money came from taxes. People’s paychecks were smaller. Had they kept this money it would have been spent on other things… not cars. AND who is Barbara Boxer to tell us what kind of car gets the cash and which ones don’t? She’s playing God which is why she needs to be defeated in the next election.

Chuck DeVore is one of the candidates running for California Senator to replace Boxer, and we support him. He is going to have a meet and greet in Marin County, California the evening of August 3. Go to Marin Conservative Forum  for more information and to RSVP.

Take The Health Care Survey

July 30, 2009

You do not need to contribute to take the survey. – FedUpEditor

We want to know and Congress needs to know: Does the thought of Obama’s health care plan make you feel sick?

ACU is conducting a survey.  We want YOUR input.

We plan to share your responses with Members of Congress who are concerned with what conservatives think about this health care plan.

When you send your survey we want to give you a chance to call your lawmakers directly.  We will have instructions for you when you send in your survey.

FILL OUT THE ACU SURVEY HERE AND NOW.  TELL CONGRESS WHETHER THE THOUGHT OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE PLANS MAKES YOU FEEL SICK.

In the survey we also want to know what part of the proposal concerns you the most.

There is plenty in the plans being discussed to worry all Americans.

SOME PROVISIONS OF THE SO-CALLED “HEALTH CARE REFORM” OBAMA – PELOSI PLAN WHICH SHOULD CAUSE CONCERN:

COST:  Even though the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is now being led by a Democrat, the CBO has said that Obama is wrong and his plan won’t lower costs.  The CBO says it will bloat deficits and leave our nation further in debt.  The CBO is sticking by these numbers despite an unprecedented push by Obama, Pelosi and their comrads to get them to say otherwise.

Current costs are estimated at $1 trillion … or so.  Why “or so?”  Because the government never seems to make accurate or clear predictions.

Case in point:  When a government hospital subsidy was created in 1987 for Medicaid, it was supposed to cost $100 million a year.  But by 1992, just five years later, the costs had already risen to $11 billion.  That cost 5 years later was not the estimated $100 million but the equivalent of $11,000 million.  Think about CBO’s $1 trillion estimate for Obama-Pelosi care and do the math…

FILL OUT THE ACU SURVEY HERE AND NOW.  TELL CONGRESS WHETHER THE THOUGHT OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE PLANS MAKES YOU FEEL SICK.

BUREAUCRATS MAKING HEALTH CARE DECISIONS:  Several provisions are being discussed which would involve bureaucrats in Washington making decisions about citizens’ health care.  Many believe these decisions would not only affect government plans, but private plans directly or indirectly in the long run.

Do you want a doctor and patient making decisions, or a group of bureaucrats sitting in cement buildings in Washington deciding whether the doctor can even offer you certain tests, surgeries or services?

One idea in discussion is to allow an un-elected advisory board known as “MedPAC” to make changes in Medicare and other parts of the health system.  The idea from liberal Democrats is that they could quietly make changes in the healthcare system to “lower costs” – many believe this would result in rationed care and would make it impossible for a Doctor to even offer a patient some services.

FILL OUT THE ACU SURVEY HERE AND NOW.  TELL CONGRESS WHETHER THE THOUGHT OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE PLANS MAKES YOU FEEL SICK.

A PUSH TOWARDS ALL-OUT GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE:  The President says he only wants a government-run health “option.”  Options always sound good right?

But as Congressman and Dr. Phil Roe said right on our ACU YouTube video site (www.youtube.com/ACUConservativeUSA) – this option will just lead to putting all other health insurance options out of business and leave our nation with government-run health care.

Liberal groups who for years have pushed for socialized medicine are supporting this plan.  Ask yourself why…

FILL OUT THE ACU SURVEY HERE AND NOW.  TELL CONGRESS WHETHER THE THOUGHT OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE PLANS MAKES YOU FEEL SICK.

JOB KILLING PROVISIONS:  Two ideas that are being floated with the plan would affect our economy and cause job losses.

One is to tax the so-called “wealthy” to pay for it.  Set aside the class warfare the Democrats are waging and the fact that some of these wealthy came from nothing.  They succeeded only with hard work and belief in the American dream.  Instead, just look to the fact that many of these people employ a very large number of Americans.  Thousands upon thousands could lose their jobs as the wealthy cut back on business and personal spending.

We all know that many times when the Democrats say they are taxing the “wealthy” those taxes over time make their way right down to the middle class.

Another provision being discussed is to levy a government fine on small businesses who do not offer coverage or the right type of health coverage based on what Obama wants.  Some proposals include a $750 per employee fine against these small businesses.  Where will that money come from?  Price increases and job losses are two likely scenarios…

FILL OUT THE ACU SURVEY HERE AND NOW.  TELL CONGRESS WHETHER THE THOUGHT OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE PLANS MAKES YOU FEEL SICK.

The liberal Democrats and their more moderate members are fighting among themselves.  They, and our conservative members on Capitol Hill, are looking for answers on where Americans stand on these issues.

They claim they are negotiating…softening the blows on business and making the plan less costly.   We have heard that before.

We must let them know where you stand.

Please fill out the survey here and now.

Sincerely,
  dw

Americans For Prosperity Meet Obama!

July 30, 2009

Joined by hundreds upon hundreds of grassroots activists, we greeted President Obama with our Patients First bus at 4pm today in Bristol, Virginia.

Sadly, the President repeated his usual untruths: that bureaucrats will not “get between patients and their doctor”; that government control of health care will “SAVE MONEY”; and that his government takeover will make health care “more efficient.”

But, we were there to send the President and the national media a clear message that Americans are not buying what he’s trying to sell.

Today, you may have heard that the so-called “Blue Dog” Democrats in the House of Representatives cut a deal with Speaker Pelosi and the Obama Administration on the health care legislation.

Don’t be discouraged. These same “Blue Dogs” caved on the Stimulus bill back in February. Most of them caved on the Cap-and-Trade bill a few weeks ago. We expected them to cave here, too.

The key thing to remember: when they say “compromise” legislation on health care, they still mean a big-government takeover of our health care and we have to say NO.

I wish you could see the energy and passion and determination of the Americans we see on this Patients First bus tour. We were in Wytheville, VA at 4pm yesterday, then Bristol, Gate City, Norton and then back to Bristol this afternoon to greet the President. The crowds are big at each stop.

One lady in Wytheville was there with her 96-years-young father, and she told me that “no government bureaucrat is going to tell me how to care for my Dad’s health.” An elderly lady raised her hand at our Norton event and said “it’s like they want us to feel guilty for wanting to keep our health care.”

At the President’s stop in Raleigh, North Carolina today our AFP North Carolina state director had over 400 folks at a counter-rally that was widely covered. The President even mentioned the signs and folks protesting on the other side!

Next week, we’ll have 2 AFP Patients First buses going – one in North Carolina making 21 stops and another in Nebraska making 19 stops. Across America, we’re saying “Hands Off My Health Care!”

To see up-to-the-minute pictures, coverage and details of our travels on the road – or the latest details in Washington, D.C. go to our website, www.americansforprosperity.org

Thanks for all you’re doing. If we keep fighting, we’re going to win.

July 29, 2009

Nancy Pelosi’s House Democrats, along with a handful of Republicans-in-Name-Only, are holding secret closed-door meetings in a last ditch effort to ram ObamaCare down the throats of the American people before they leave town.

You read that right… before they leave town for their summer vacation.

And what about the news reports that say ObamaCare is stalled… that there will be no legislation coming out of Congress in the foreseeable future? You really didn’t believe that the politicians in Washington had given up… did you?

According to a late-breaking news report released by the Associated Press on Tuesday:

“A bipartisan group of senators is closing in on a health care compromise… as lawmakers on both sides of the Capitol labor to deliver sweeping health legislation to President Barack Obama.”

And, according to an article published on The Washington Examiner’s website on Tuesday:

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi still claims that she has the votes to approve the new legislation and that a floor vote could come by Friday….”

In addition, The New York Times claims House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is looking at keeping the House in session to pass whatever health care bill comes down the pike:

“The House Democratic leader… said it was conceivable the House might stay in session a few days longer and vote on Aug. 3 or 4.”

Anthony G. Martin, in an article published by The Washington Examiner, gives perhaps the best description on what is going on right now:

“It doesn’t take an enormous amount of digging to see what’s going on here. The self-styled ‘rulers’ who now run Washington seem intent on ramming through legislation that no one has read and that even Barack Obama had great difficulty explaining… The ultra-liberal Democratic leadership, along with the ‘blue dog Dems’ and the RINOS (Republicans in Name Only’) would like nothing better than to foist upon an unsuspecting public a multi-trillion-dollar healthcare fiasco, complete with rationing, just so they can fulfill some sort of ideological obligation in their demented, brainwashed minds that ‘government must take care of ALL of the needs of the people.”

It’s as if we’re fighting the Amnesty battle all over again. The American people, in resounding numbers, are saying “no” to ObamaCare and politicians in Washington are, for some inane reason, trying to sneak it past us anyway.

     And that’s not acceptable.

Let’s tell these politicians in Washington that when it comes to ObamaCare, the American people don’t want any so-called “compromises” made behind closed doors in the dark of night.

Let’s make sure they get the message this time around… “no” means “no.”

Use the hyperlink below to send your urgent and personalized Blast Faxes to Barack Obama and each and every one of the leaders of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives – or alternatively to President Obama and all 535 Members of Congress.

Tell them that when the American people say “no” to ObamaCare, the American people mean “no.” Tell them it does not mean, “let’s try sneak it through when the American people aren’t looking.”

Tell them that ObamaCare is deceitful and treacherous, a recipe for rationing and reduced quality of care. Tell them that the American people want choice when it comes to health care, not government bureaucrats making decisions for people and their families.

PUT BLUE DOG DEMOCRATS ON NOTICE!

July 29, 2009

Newsmax reports late today that Blue Dog Mike Ross of Arkansas announced they had made a deal to pass the health care reform legislation! We do not know what it in it, and what if it goes to reconciliation and sneaky liberal Democrats put everything back in before it goes for a signature??? Call him now and voice your displeasure. Mike Ross (870) 869-3071, 419 E Highway 63, Imboden, AR 72434; (479) 969-6215, 129 W Priddy St, Magazine, AR 72943; and (870) 542-7688, Foreman, AR 71836. They always say they do not take calls from anyone other than their constituents, but they are passing legislation that affects us, so he owes us an explanation! – FedUpEditor

The White House and Blue Dog Democrats may not have a deal over healthcare reform after all.

Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas, a negotiator for the Blue Dogs, announced Wednesday afternoon that an agreement had been reached following marathon negotiations with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, and Committee chairman Rep. Henry A. Waxman, D-Calif.

When informed of the apparent agreement while traveling in North Carolina, President Obama said, “I’m especially grateful that so many members, including some Blue Dogs on the Energy and Commerce Committee, are working so hard to find common ground.”

A House Energy and Commerce Committee session to begin marking up a final version of the bill was abruptly cancelled late Wednesday afternoon, however.

The press already had begun to gather in the hearing room for the 4 p.m. meeting, when an announcement was made on the House floor that it would be postponed until Thursday morning.

“Rumors are swirling on the Hill that some in Congress got ahead of themselves in announcing a deal that may not be all the way there,” Claude Chafin, spokesman for Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., tells Newsmax.

Rep. Blackburn is a member of the Committee that has suddenly become Ground Zero for Democratic wrangling over the bill’s specifics.

Members of the conservative Blue Dog Democrat Coalition on the committee have balked at the bill’s $1 trillion-plus price tag, and have also expressed concern about social issues such as the public financing of abortion.

“We’ll see what deal there is, and what it looks like, tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock,” Chafin tells Newsmax, adding, “Or 11 o’clock … or 12 o’clock.”

The compromise that some Blue Dogs appear ready to accept would cut the overall cost of reform by $100 billion. It would also exempt employers with payrolls of less than $500,000 from providing insurance to their employees, and would promise consumers that they would not be required to switch to the public-option plan that would be subsidized by the government.

The Lies of Presiden O’bama on Health Care

July 29, 2009

Letter from our President this morning. Our replies are in [brackets].

Dear Friend,

If you’re like most Americans, there’s nothing more important to you about health care than peace of mind. [I had peace of mind until the government decided it was urgent to get involved in health care!]

Given the status quo, that’s understandable. The current system often denies insurance due to pre-existing conditions, charges steep out-of-pocket fees – and sometimes isn’t there at all if you become seriously ill. [This is caused by regluations that the government has set up to stifle competition. How is the government going to solve that with rationing?]

It’s time to fix our unsustainable insurance system and create a new foundation for health care security. That means guaranteeing your health care security and stability with eight basic consumer protections: [Remember the government assurances there would be pay/go? Remember the promise to win the war on drugs? Remember the promise to build the fence on our southern border which hasn't been done yet? Remember these promises because they are liars. They solve nothing. Health care is not the primary focus here. Government jobs who vote Democrat is.]

No discrimination for pre-existing conditions [Make it a law and keep it in the private sector]
No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays [What, with co-ops which is a new word for HMO? There were the bad guys not that long ago, remember?]
No cost-sharing for preventive care [Unless you are too old in which case we will give you a pain pill and watch you wither away... unless you are Ted Kennedy.]
No dropping of coverage if you become seriously ill [We'll just deny treatment... unless you are Ted Kennedy.]
No gender discrimination [There is none now.]
No annual or lifetime caps on coverage [Right. Got a bridge I can buy?]
Extended coverage for young adults [They don't WANT insurance. That is why they don't have it or want it now. They'd rather spend their money on tatoos and piercings than pay for health care. Of course, once the government is involved, it will come right out of your paycheck!]
Guaranteed insurance renewal so long as premiums are paid [Aha! With the money being taken from your check that will NEVER happen.]
Learn more about these consumer protections at Whitehouse.gov.

Over the next month there is going to be an avalanche of misinformation and scare tactics from those seeking to perpetuate the status quo. [Put out by Democrats in order to get this massive legislation passed whether we like it or not!] But we know the cost of doing nothing is too high. [Just like the stimulus that had to be done NOW. Most of it hasn't kicked in yet! This health plan will not even be enacted for 3-4 years anyway. What's the rush to socialism?] Health care costs will double over the next decade, millions more will become uninsured, and state and local governments will go bankrupt. [Because your policies don't work and people will be out of jobs!]

It’s time to act and reform health insurance, drive down costs and guarantee the health care security and stability of every American family. You can help by putting these core principles of reform in the hands of your friends, your family, and the rest of your social network. [No, no no. People are already hip to this ruse and the avalanche will only bury these people sooner rather than later. My representative's message service is FULL!]

Thank you,
Barack Obama
[And I approve this message? Do I even know what it says or what's in the health bill? Doubt it!]

Call AARP

July 28, 2009

If you are an aging baby boomer like I am, take the time to call AARP and protest their support for the government health care program. Obviously they have not read the legislation and do not know that if it passes, seniors will be in trouble getting health insurance. They have long been a supporter of liberal causes and candidates, so it’s time they heard from people who are not joining because of their political affiliations. Their number is (800) 726-9728.

OPEN LETTER to Marin County

July 28, 2009

I posted this letter to the Marin IJ Letters to the Editor today.

Why is nobody talking about the work stoppage at the Chevron Refinery? Environmental groups, two of who are not even associated with this community, have placed an injunction on work being done to the facility. If environmentalists were intellectually honest, they should see this work as a good thing because it is designed to upgrade equipment and make it safer as well as more environmentally friendly.

But to “greenies”, oil is bad, and so the work must stop… even if it helps the environment. The result? Loss of 1,000 jobs. I thought we were going to stimulate the economy and help blue collar workers achieve the American dream? I guess it only applies if the liberals APPROVE of the jobs.

We are not going to be off fossil fuels for some time. Even hybrids use gasoline. Why not make the best of it and upgrade the facility to make it safer?

And what about the unemployment it is causing? Certainly the community of Richmond, where most of the people live, could use that influx of money. Think of the kids of the laid-off workers who will go to bed hungry because dad or mom are not bringing home a paycheck. Maybe we should do it for the children!
