PUT BLUE DOG DEMOCRATS ON NOTICE!

July 29, 2009

Newsmax reports late today that Blue Dog Mike Ross of Arkansas announced they had made a deal to pass the health care reform legislation! We do not know what it in it, and what if it goes to reconciliation and sneaky liberal Democrats put everything back in before it goes for a signature??? Call him now and voice your displeasure. They always say they do not take calls from anyone other than their constituents, but they are passing legislation that affects us, so he owes us an explanation! – FedUpEditor

The White House and Blue Dog Democrats may not have a deal over healthcare reform after all.

Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas, a negotiator for the Blue Dogs, announced Wednesday afternoon that an agreement had been reached following marathon negotiations with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, and Committee chairman Rep. Henry A. Waxman, D-Calif.

When informed of the apparent agreement while traveling in North Carolina, President Obama said, “I’m especially grateful that so many members, including some Blue Dogs on the Energy and Commerce Committee, are working so hard to find common ground.”

A House Energy and Commerce Committee session to begin marking up a final version of the bill was abruptly cancelled late Wednesday afternoon, however.

The press already had begun to gather in the hearing room for the 4 p.m. meeting, when an announcement was made on the House floor that it would be postponed until Thursday morning.

“Rumors are swirling on the Hill that some in Congress got ahead of themselves in announcing a deal that may not be all the way there,” Claude Chafin, spokesman for Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., tells Newsmax.

Rep. Blackburn is a member of the Committee that has suddenly become Ground Zero for Democratic wrangling over the bill’s specifics.

Members of the conservative Blue Dog Democrat Coalition on the committee have balked at the bill’s $1 trillion-plus price tag, and have also expressed concern about social issues such as the public financing of abortion.

“We’ll see what deal there is, and what it looks like, tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock,” Chafin tells Newsmax, adding, “Or 11 o’clock … or 12 o’clock.”

The compromise that some Blue Dogs appear ready to accept would cut the overall cost of reform by $100 billion. It would also exempt employers with payrolls of less than $500,000 from providing insurance to their employees, and would promise consumers that they would not be required to switch to the public-option plan that would be subsidized by the government.

Economic Stimulus. H.R. 5140, the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, passed 385-35 on January 29, 2008 (Roll Call 25). It would provide about $150 billion in economic stimulus, including $101.1 billion in direct payments of rebate checks (typically $600) to most taxpayers in 2008 and temporary tax breaks for businesses. Creating money out of thin air and then spending the newly created money cannot improve the economy, at least not in the long term. (If it could, why not create even more money for rebates and make every American a millionaire?) The stimulus has no offset and thus increases the federal deficit by the amount of the stimulus because the government must borrow the rebate money. A realistic long-term stimulus can only be achieved by lowering taxes through less government and by reducing regulatory burdens.Marsha Blackburn voted FOR this bill.(Source: The New American – July 21, 2008)

    Marsha Blackburn is my Congressman.

    Mickey,

Thank you for reading our blog and for posting your comments. As we have pointed out before, if borrowing money to get rich worked we would not have all these debt consolidation and debt repair companies! You can not spend your way to prosperity. That’s true for individuals and even moreso for countries.

We have also used the metaphor of a bathtub full of water for the economy. Government does not produce wealth, it only takes it from the private sector in the form of taxes and, like a bucket of water taken from one end of the tub and returned to the other end, the net result is essentially no change. It is the private sector that turns on the faucet and adds water to the tub!

    Thanks again.
