Only Republicans have offered solutions to lower health care costs and make it easier to obtain quality, affordable coverage without imposing a massive burden on the American people.”

October 31, 2009 Congressman John Boehner today delivered the Weekly Republican Address, where he discussed Republican health care solutions to lower health care costs, and make it easier to obtain quality, affordable coverage without imposing a massive burden on the American people. Audio of the address is available here; video of the address is available here Boehner said: “At the beginning of this year, I told President Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Republicans would be ready to work with them whenever possible to address the nation’s biggest challenges. I also said that where there were differences, it was our obligation as a party to explain to the American people how we would do things better… “We now have a choice: we can come together to implement smart, fiscally responsible reforms, or we can recklessly abandon it in favor of a partisan government takeover that creates far more problems than it solves.” In his address, Boehner highlighted the following four smart, fiscally-responsible reforms to lower 1. Let families and businesses buy health insurance across state lines. 2. Allow individuals, small businesses, and trade associations to pool together and acquire health insurance at lower prices, the same way large corporations and labor unions do. 3. Give states the tools to create their own innovative reforms that lower health care costs. 4. End junk lawsuits that contribute to higher health care costs by increasing the number of tests and procedures that physicians sometimes order not because they think it’s good medicine, but because they are afraid of being sued. From the Hoffman Campaign – NY-23
Campaign Alert – 32 days until Election Day! Donate Now
Our Republican opponent, Dede Scozzafava, today suspended her campaign and told her supporters they are free to support anyone they would like. We would like to acknowledge the class and dignity with which Mrs. Scozzafava conducted her campaign and thank her for her continued service to our great state. She deserves our respect and appreciation.
And now the race for the 23rd congressional district truly becomes a two way race between a Nancy Pelosi democrat and a principled Conservative Republican. We cannot take victory for granted under any circumstance. Pelosi and comrades are poised to spend a fortune to win this seat. They are even airlifting in Joe Biden on Monday. We must continue to fight as if life as we know it depends on it, because it does!

What do toys from China have to do with oil imported from the Middle East?
October 31, 2009
From CEA – It’s been estimated that as much as one quarter of carbon dioxide emissions in China results from the production of goods that are exported, largely to the United States and Europe. It’s part of a phenomenon known as carbon leakage, in which reduced emissions in one country result in higher emissions elsewhere, and quite possibly a net increase in worldwide emissions.
It goes something like this: Country A passes legislation reducing emissions (good), but does so in a way that fails to contemplate the global impact of its move (not so good). As a result of the tighter standards in Country A, the cost of manufacturing goods and services there goes up, resulting in increased demand for those same products out of countries B, C and D, where production costs are comparatively low and emissions standards are slim to nonexistent. Country A loses more of its manufacturing base, and jobs along with it, without ever really achieving its main objective of cleaning up the planet. Its emissions legislation has only served to encourage increased output from some of the places with the lowest environmental standards.
The problem of carbon leakage is often cited as an unintended consequence of carbon offsets. But it also relates to the issue of low carbon fuel standards in the U.S. As CEA recently noted, policies designed to favor production of light crude oils, which in general require less energy to produce than their heavier counterparts, could easily create the unintended consequence of increasing the country’s need for foreign oil.
Now, in one sense, all foreign oil is created equal, at least when you’re measuring the amount the U.S. imports from all over the world. But just for a moment put oil from Canada in a category of its own: yes, it’s foreign oil, but it is at least a nearby and stable source that can help support jobs on pipelines and in refineries near the U.S./Canadian border.
A newspaper in South Dakota recently complained the passage of a low carbon fuel standard could kill a new oil refinery project that had been expected to create more than 1,000 jobs, by cutting off supply of heavy crude oil from Canada. This is not oil that could be easily replaced by a U.S. source: Under a low carbon fuel standard, a refinery in Middle America with a healthy supply of oil in its own backyard might have to tap supplies in the Middle East, where the crude is, as they say, sweet.
“Do a little digging,” the story says, “and you quickly find out that the low carbon fuel standard isn’t at all interested in making the fuel in your car today better, cleaner or more affordable. It’s only interested in making those fuels scarcer, more expensive and less available.”

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money. This is a true statement by Margaret Thatcher. The problem with socialists in the US I have seen is I believe they really think if it is implemented they will be in the ruling elite. The truth is, they will also be under the thumb of government. Another problem is many of them are already rich and have achieve the American Dream. Maybe they feel guilty about it. Or maybe they think they are being charitable.
But if they were, wouldn’t they give their OWN money first rather than take it out of the pockets of people they don’t know? It’s cowardly and it’s stealing. Just because they don’t know the people they are stealing from doesn’t make it right! In fact, if they had to look people in the eye when they were going for our money instead of having the IRS do it for them, they would probably not be able to do it. COWARDS!
So when they start using words like “social justice” it is a code word for thievery, dishonesty and strealing… it just sounds nicer. Through political correctness we have let socialism creep into our language and rob us of our values.

Remember the old good news, bad news jokes? The government thinks we are stupid. Look at all the inconsistencies in the way they have approached problems and you will see they have no intention of solving any of our problems. Here are some examples.
Good News: We are going to have a national health care program that will be FREE to everyone! Everyone will be covered regardless of pre-existing conditions, and it will be efficient.
Bad News: We can’t get enough H1N1 Flu vaccine which is such a small portion of what they are promising to do for us!
Good News: There are news reports that people are actually very happy about being unemployed. With the numbers up around 10%, there are numerous stories in the press about how this is actually good for the US because people are spending time with their families and planting their own food, eating healthier, etc.
Bad News: Remember when Bush was in office and slightly over 5% was TERRIBLE? No, there is no media bias.
Good News: Obama was touting the new smart electric meters which will do things like force thermostats to be set to conserve electricity or run dishwashers in the middle of the night while people are sleeping.
Bad News: Why are they pushing everyone into electric cars if there is going to be an electricity shortage?
Good News: Government does not want to do anything about illegal immigration even though we need tax revenue.
Bad News: If we gave the work to documented workers and legal US citizens, we could collect taxes from them and lower unemployment at the same time.
Good News: There is going to be an opt out in the public health care plan.
Bad News: Oh, you can opt out of receiving benefits, but you can not opt out of the taxation of the program!
Good News: Our current government is going to draw down troops in Iraq so they can fight a legitimate war in Afghanistan.
Bad News: Not so fast, Obama. Don’t rush into anything.
Bottom line? This administration is incompetent! Let’s make sure there is a turnover in the next election starting with the special elections in November!

Boehner Speaks Out!
October 27, 2009
Oct 21, 2009
Washington – Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement today regarding continued job losses in Ohio during the month of September.
“Earlier this year, the administration’s top economists stated that passage of the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ would ensure the nation’s unemployment rate would not exceed 8 percent. [It is now nearly 10 percent.] In July, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 11.2 percent. Since then, the unemployment rate has decreased, but only because thousands of Ohioans have given up their job search out of frustration with the failure of Democrats in Columbus and Washington to fix our economy and get people back to work.”
“As Ohio small businesses and families continue to struggle, everyone is asking, ‘where are the jobs?’ Today Speaker Nancy Pelosi is convening a panel of economists – the same economists who gave them advice on their fundamentally flawed ’stimulus’ bill. Hopefully Democratic leaders will realize that with more than three million job losses since the ’stimulus’ was enacted, now is not the time to push forward with their plans for a massive government takeover of health care that will harm small businesses, impose more than $820 billion in new tax hikes and make job losses even worse. Republicans have offered better solutions on the ’stimulus’ and health care that will help small businesses create jobs and restore Ohioans’ hope for a brighter tomorrow.”
NOTE: According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report released this morning, Ohio has lost 258,100 jobs over the past year, ranking the state 6th in the nation for largest decline during that period. Ohio reported a 10.1 percent unemployment rate for the month of September, down from 10.8 percent in August. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services attributes this decrease to a growing number of Ohioans giving up on their job search. Two weeks ago, House Republican leaders sent letters to President Obama and Speaker Pelosi urging them to consider common-sense GOP solutions to help put Americans back to work. These proposals, some of which were presented to the president as early as his first week in office, were developed by House Republicans’ Economic Recovery and Health Care solutions groups.
Doug Hoffman is Leading in the Polls!
October 27, 2009
We’re winning! Last week we sent you an URGENT message about the special election in the New York 23rd congressional district. We asked for urgent donations from you and fellow patriots to help support Patriot Doug Hoffman. And you answered the call with flying colors! We began running key radio ads supporting Doug Hoffman, and they’ve made a huge impact by educating the voters about who’s running . . . And the results are nothing less than amazing . . .
Coming from behind, Doug Hoffman now leads the race by 8%!!!
Pro-amnesty liberals Dede Scozzafava and Bill Owens are tanking in the polls . . . and we have you to thank for it!
HELP CARRY DOUG HOFFMAN TO THE FINISH LINE!
Hoffman is a true patriot pledging to fight the deluge of hand-outs for illegal aliens coming down from the Obama White House and serial amnesty peddlers Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid……but his liberal opponents, Democrat Bill Owens and super-liberal pro-amnesty Republican Dede Scozzafava, are guaranteed to support whatever Pelosi puts in front of them. And the odd twist in this race is that Scozzafava, the Republican, is more liberal than the Democrat!
This race is CRITICAL because it sets the tone for and sends a message to Washington that we’re coming with our barrels loaded in 2010…aiming to take back our country from the leftists who’ve tried to destroy it!If you haven’t yet heard the Minuteman PAC radio ad, click the link above and listen. In fact, forward it to your friends and family . . . because every bit of support for Doug Hoffman is critical.
For the Republic,
Minuteman PAC’s latest polling of definite voters is showing Hoffman’s lead even greater with a 38% – 26% – 16% spread! Folks, in electoral politics, that’s a landslide!!!
And that’s because the Minuteman PAC radio ad – which you helped us run – is showing the voters that neither the Democrat nor the Republican candidate is acceptable…in fact they’re both deplorable on the issues.
What’s more, Scozzafava was rated even more liberal than her Democrat colleagues in the state senate.
This race could go any way at the last minute, so we’ve got to do everything in our power to EXPAND HOFFMAN’S LEAD . . . and the only way to do that is to
With additional donations from loyal patriots like you, we’ll be able to continue running these ads:
-$25 = 1 radio spot in NY-23
-$50 = 2 radio spots in NY-23
-$100 = 4 radio spots in NY-23
-$250 = 10 radio spots in NY-23

Imagine a two-term Republican governor from a state carried by Barack Obama who turned an $800 million deficit into a $1.2 billion surplus by cutting overhead and bringing sound business principles to his state’s government even as he provided new health benefits for poor citizens. Imagine no longer. Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels accomplished this and more, and he did it all while enacting the biggest tax cut in state history.
Despite a long career in public service, Mr. Daniels is not nearly as well-known as some of his colleagues. He worked for several years on Capitol Hill as chief aide to Sen. Richard G. Lugar and served former President Ronald Reagan as political director. After a 15-year stint in private business, Mr. Daniels became former President George W. Bush’s director of the Office of Management and Budget and then won back-to-back gubernatorial races in 2004 and 2008 in Indiana. His second victory was won with the biggest vote total of any candidate for any office in state history.
Despite his relatively low public profile, Mr. Daniels has been a successful, reform-minded, conservative governor. He took office in 2005 with a huge deficit and state spending growing at an unsustainable 6 percent rate.
But Mr. Daniels is not one to kick the can down the road. He immediately went to work finding savings wherever he could. Cost-cutting and businesslike practices cured the state’s operational deficit, but Indiana, like virtually every other state, also faced a huge shortfall in capital infrastructure funds. Mr. Daniels tackled that with the largest public-private partnership in U.S. history, a lease of the Indiana Toll Road, which brought the state nearly $4 billion for investment in transportation plus billions more to modernize the Toll Road itself.
In an interview, Mr. Daniels explained the impediments to conservative reform. “One is the public-sector employee unions who benefit from higher government spending and oppose pro-taxpayer reforms such as contracting for basic services.”
There is also the need to convince employees and state legislators who are often “far more comfortable with preserving the way things have always been rather than seeing what we could do to make things better.”

Health Care and Cap & Trade both require the Read the Bills Act
October 26, 2009
The healthcare bill and the cap and trade bill both threaten to completely remake two of the largest sectors of our economy. The President and Congressional leaders tell us these massive makeovers are so urgent that these bills must be passed soon — so soon that they can’t allow time to read them, even for 72 hours. But notice . . .
- They’re taking months to work out the gruesome details
- Most health care reforms won’t begin until 2013
- The effects of the cap&trade bill won’t be seen for decades
- After spending months on both of these bills, secret provisions will still be added at the last minute
In short, Congress is taking a long time to reach the point where they’ll rush these bills to a final vote, but then it will take years or decades for these bills to really take effect.
This is a contradiction. DownsizeDC.org’s Read the Bills Act would resolve the contradiction by compelling Congress to be deliberate.
Please send Congress a letter telling them they need to pass DownsizeDC.org’s Read the Bills Act.
You can use my letter as a model for your own, or simply past it into your personal comments . . .
Congress is taking months to craft legislation on health care and cap and trade. These bills will then have delayed implementations, or delayed effects. But despite these facts I know that you’ll rush them to a vote at the last minute, without taking the time to read them, understand them, or debate them. This is a contradiction.
I also know that many secret and probably unrelated provisions will be added to them at the last minute. This has happened so often in the past that I know you’ll do it again with the health care and cap & trade bills. This is irresponsible.
Neither I nor you will really know what you’ve passed for days or weeks after the final vote. This is intolerable.
It’s obvious to me that Congress cannot be trusted to behave responsibly, or even to follow it’s own rules. That’s why we need a law to make you behave. Please introduce and pass DownsizeDC.org’s “Read the Bills Act.”
END LETTER TO CONGRESS
You can send your letter to Congress here.
Please also add your website or blog to the Read the Bills Act Coalition. It’s quick and easy, and will build public awareness about the Read the Bills Act. In return, your site will be listed on our blog and be listed in a Downsizer-Dispatch. You can join at the DownsizeDC.org website.
Today we welcome 3 new members to the Coalition:
Finally, over the past three weeks the House passed 33 bills totaling 1,779 pages, and the Senate passed 18 bills totaling 1,728 pages. You can see the list of bills in the blog version of this Dispatch:

I had a funny (to me) thought today. Why can’t I write off all the Americans who receive the benefits of my tax payments as dependents? When my daughter was young and living at home, I get a tax deduction to help pay for her food and clothing. We got a credit for her child care expenses. So why does not the same apply when my (and yours) tax dollars go to feed and clothe someone who I don’t even know? It used to be called charity, except that I voluntarily gave to the causes I supported.
Hummingbirds. Now that it’s fall, all the flowers have come and gone. The hummingbirds are sucking down the feeder about 3 times a week. I am this close to claiming them as dependents. Think of it, I’d probably get away with it. Imagine the form:
Hummingbird Editor. The tax guy reviews the return and sees the name Hummingbird. Then he looks at my address… Mill Valley, CA. With kids being named True, Blossom, Sage, etc. why wouldn’t they believe someone in our area would name their child Hummingbird? APPROVED!
