Obama Wants to Extend the School Year – OPINION
September 29, 2010
An article by CBS News says, “Part of the Obama Education Agenda includes more money and extending the school year, as well as implementing an aggressive program for education reform. “ More money? And this is going to come from where? Oh, I forgot. Taxing the rich. If your kids were in love with Obama, that may not last long. And imagine the nightmare of planning summer vacations. Not only that but it will increase school budgets dramatically.
Moving on, let’s look at it this way. I grew up in Iowa and the school year was shorter than it is now. Our public education system was extremely efficient in teaching the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic. We were number one in the country during the 60′s. Now that schools are teaching diversity training, ethnic studies, conflict resolution, environmental issues and who know what else, there just aren’t enough hours in the school year that we need another month? Give me a break.
What worked in the past (much like our economic system that put us at the top of the food chain) will work today. Our education system needs to be reformed all right… reformed back to what it was when we were world leaders. It’s apparent the education system, as it stands now, does not work for the most part. Kids are being graduating without knowing how to read or write. This is not a matter of money. In fact, so much of it is going to education now that it’s time we look at WHERE the money is going. Can anyone say, “audit?” They talk about Big Business, I say what about Big Education?
Going back, why would another month needed in the school year? Is it that too many days are taken off during the course of the regular session that another month would fix that? And don’t most teachers assign homework? So isn’t most of the learning happening outside the school hours anyway? I don’t get it.
Part of the reason for extending the school year could be more time for indoctrination. I see so many little “hippies” leaving the Tam High school yard every day to sit over at the Safeway across the street and drink mochas or Jamba Juice or whatever. Little Liberals in the making. And the ones that drive have a Prius which daddy bought them and is plastered with “save the earth” or “eat vegan” bumper stickers.
How about this? What if the kids stayed in school and extra hour or two? Wouldn’t that take care of the much needed extra school month? It certainly would make it easier to shop at Safeway if nothing else! Bottom line? Extending the school year and giving education more money will never solve the problem of kids not learning. What needs to happen is change the system, run by the teachers’ union and turn it into a merit based system. Until we get politicians elected that are not beholden to unions will we see real change in education. Unfortunately it may already be too late.

What is Woolsey Afraid of?
September 24, 2010
Letter to the Editor
Marin Independent Journal
Editor,
I was at the Congressional District 6 question and answer that was held in Santa Rosa on Monday, September 20. Lynn Woolsey could not have looked any more uncomfortable. For someone who has been in Congress as long as she has you would think public speaking would be a fine art. However, the incumbent stuttered and stammered through almost every question as if she was not prepared for what was going to be asked.
Now the Marin League of Women Voters have scheduled a debate in Novato for October where the public will not be invited. It’s obvious that the “non-partisan” league has been approached by the Woolsey camp to keep the doors closed. If this election isn’t about the voters, then who does Woolsey represent?
In a press release dated today, GOP challenger, Jim Judd, has stated his disappointment that the debate will not be open to the public and encourages the League to reconsider. Regardless, he has nothing to hide and will show up anywhere Woolsey is and talk about the issues. This is the type of character we need in a representative in Washington!
Sincerely,
Mick Orton

Do the Math – and Vote for Jim Judd!
September 21, 2010
At the 6th CD Candidates’ Forum last night in Santa Rosa, Lynn Woolsey invited the audience to view her service from the perspective of a family with a child born when she took office 18 years ago. One of Congresswoman Woolsey’s first acts was to provide the deciding vote to impose Bill Clinton’s 4.3 cents a gallon tax on gasoline, to be used for non-transportation purposes. It took only two years after this tax increase for the voters to turn control of Congress over to Republicans, but President Clinton used the threat of a veto to keep this diversion of transportation funds in effect for two years after that. A typical commuter who drove a high-mileage car spent about 1 hour per day at 30 miles per hour, for the four years that this 4.3 cents per gallon was not available for transportation uses. This diversion amounts to about five gallons per week, for 200 weeks, 2/3 of the $30,000 annual salary for the median hourly worker).
After Democrats regained control of Congress (and Lynn Woolsey helped to elect Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House
Lynn Woolsey is enamored with the idea of putting everyone on Medicare.
Try to remember what you hoped eighteen years ago the world would be like now for your newborn child, grandchild or relative. Imagine what two more years in the same direction would be like, and join me in voting for Jim Judd, to provide a fresh approach in Washington.

Lisa Murkowski is What is Wrong With the Republican Establishment – OPINION
September 20, 2010
If you ask me, Lisa Murkowski [clueless] is the perfect example of what is wrong with what the Republican Party has become. It also shows why many people think there is no difference between the two parties. I mean, how many times have we seen Democrats clinging to their seats amid scandals and illnesses instead of doing what’s best for the country and stepping down?
Joe Miller won the primary; the mechanism for choosing someone to represent the party… and it wasn’t the incumbent. Yet Murkowski, seemingly a spoiled child who was originally APPOINTED by her father to the position, will not go quietly into that good night.
Her excuse for mounting a write-in campaign is that most of Miller’s money came from out of the state. So what? His VOTES didn’t! Miller was elected by Alaskan Republicans overwhelmingly. Why? Because he was the only conservative on the ticket!
There are other Tea Party candidates who won their races, and the Republican establishment seems truly afraid… Which makes you wonder whose side they are on.
Well, they should be scared. For years they have represented nothing but a lighter version of Democrat; but pro big government all the same. Now when the grass roots rise up, they don’t like it. We don’t understand, they say.
Nonsense. We understand perfectly. We KNOW what’s in the Constitution and what is happening in government is NOT even close!

IRS is NON Political – They Will Go After Anyone!
September 3, 2010
Yesterday the New York Times reported that the former Planned Parenthood Golden Gate–umbrella organization to seven Planned Parenthood clinics in the San Francisco area–is now under investigation by the criminal division of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). According to the story, a former employee of the organization lodged a complaint with the IRS regarding an inappropriate financial relationship between Planned Parenthood and its political arm.
Meanwhile, as we begin Labor Day 2010, the national group overseeing its affiliates, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, still has not published the annual report from July, 2008-July, 2009. The report, which includes information such as the number of abortions that were performed during that time and the dollar amount received in government funding, is typically made public every April. Interestingly, this report will be the first summary of how the group has fared during the Obama Administration. What might they be hiding?
What we do know is that the non-profit is profiting quite nicely since the Obamas came to D.C. In Planned Parenthood’s IRS 990 form from July, 2008-July, 2009, they had a net profit of over $106 million dollars (and President Obama had only been in office for six months!) For more information on Planned Parenthood’s financials and other interesting facts about the organization that everyone should know, see FRC’s newly released pamphlet, Planned Parenthood: What Every Parent, Teacher, Woman, Community Leader and Elected Official Needs to Know.
Response to Barbara Boxer’s Form Letter
September 3, 2010
Here is a form e-mail letter I received from Barbara Boxer today. My comments are in [brackets].
September 02, 2010
Dear Friend:
As I keep working to help pull California out of the worst recession since the Great Depression, my top priority has been to create jobs and get our economy moving again. [Note: First off, I am not your friend. Your idea of creating jobs is creating government jobs. What you should be doing is cutting regulations and lowering taxes so investors will feel comfortable investing in the private sector again and pull the COUNTRY out of its recession!]
At the same time, we must begin attacking the federal budget deficit. Though economic growth and job creation are the best tools to reduce the deficit, we must take additional steps to eliminate the long-term budget deficit and protect future generations from a staggering burden of debt. [True though you have gone along with Obama and the Democrats on every spending bill since you took over the House and Senate!]
We did it before, and we can do it again. When President Bill Clinton and I first took office, the nation was suffering under a recession and a massive federal budget deficit. Eight years later, we had created 23 million jobs and the biggest budget surplus in history: $236 billion. Unfortunately, the failed policies of the last administration left us with a $1.3 trillion deficit and an economy in shambles. [If you remember, it was a Republican Congress that made this happen, not Democrats! And stop blaming the past administration and man-up. It's YOUR economy now!]
Here are some measures we could take right away to cut the federal deficit:
Adhere to “pay-as-you-go” (PAYGO) rules requiring any new federal investments to be offset by corresponding budget cuts – I have voted for PAYGO rules eight times since 2003; [Does anyone else remember a speech by Obama not that long ago saying we were going to be using PAYGO??? This is a NEW idea??? How about just living up to the original promise???]
Cut $36.5 billion over the next ten years in tax breaks for oil and gas companies; [Again with Big Oil. What about your Big Government salaries? And what happens when energy prices skyrocket?]
Cut $15 billion over ten years in tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas; [Who gave it to them in the first place and made it impossible to do business in the US?]
Cut $100 billion over ten years from the federal government’s travel budget, which rose by 75 percent during the Bush era; [Does this include the Michelle Obama trips with 40 of her friends or the Imam who is traveling overseas on our dime for an "outreach" program?]
Save $1.1 trillion over ten years by bringing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to a close; [Oh sure, the one thing the Constitution says the government CAN do, you want to shut down our national defense. Our spending for 7 years of wars is a drop in the bucket compared to all the stimulus and other spending you guys have done.]
Cut $500 billion over ten years in wasteful payments made by the Federal government; [Starting with your salary, health care and retirement pension???]
Save hundreds of billions of dollars by allowing some of the Bush tax cuts to expire – even just those for millionaires. [Why target the rich? I have never gotten a job from anyone who is standing on a street corner. It is the rich who are providing the jobs by investing in the economy. If the rich are made poor how does that help anyone?]
In addition to these steps, I look forward to evaluating the recommendations of the bipartisan deficit reduction commission recently established by President Obama. I have voted to establish a bipartisan deficit reduction commission whose recommendations would get fast-track authority for Congressional approval, and I am glad President Obama took the initiative to establish a commission. [Make no mistake. The theory is that this bi-partisan commission is going to recommend a VAT tax... with us in the middle of a recession! Are you trying to send us into a DEPRESSION?]
Working together, I know we can put America on the road to a balanced budget and sustained economic growth. We did it before. We can do it again. [Working together we are going to retire you in November and put some real solution-oriented people to work on solving our fiscal problems.]
Sincerely,
Barbara Boxer
