Downsizer Needs Help! Huge CFPA on the Way!
March 9, 2010
Congress wants to establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) that will regulate everything from credit cards to mortgages.
House Democrats want the CFPA to be an independent agency, but Republicans are opposed. As a result, Senators Chris Dodd and Bob Corker are thinking of making it an arm of . . . the Federal Reserve!
Both Democrats AND Republicans are missing the point. Only Congress – not unelected bureaucrats – should have power to write and pass laws. Please tell Congress to oppose the creation of the CFPA and tell them to introduce the Write the Laws Act (WTLA) instead.
You may borrow from or copy this letter . . .
I’m upset that Congress is considering the creation of a new regulatory agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA). The CFPA would do more harm than good . . .
* it will regulate financial institutions to supposedly protect consumers
* whereas other federal regulators are charged with protecting the health and solvency of these same institutions
* these differing objectives will lead to conflicting regulations
* that will cause harm to both consumers and the industry itselfAnd the CFPA is unnecessary . . .
* existing agencies already have consumer protection powers
* members of Congress claim these agencies haven’t regulated adequately or wisely, HOWEVER
* there’s no evidence that yet another new regulatory body will do any betterYou, the members of Congress, have ultimate responsibility for policy. You can restrain the bureaucrats, and you can give them specific instructions. New bureaucracies are not needed; instead, Congress must assume its Constitutional responsibility for ALL regulations.
Frankly, I do not believe any new regulations are needed. If you abolished the Fed, granted free competition in currency, and allowed free banking, the market would regulate itself according to the demands of the people. But if you are convinced that federal regulations are needed, the least you can do is follow the Constitution!
* the Constitution reserves legislative power – including regulatory power - in YOU, not in unelected bureaucrats
* write specific legislation, with no details left to the bureaucrats
* Executive Branch agencies should be charged only with enforcing regulations, not with writing themI therefore insist that you oppose the creation of the CFPA. Instead, introduce the Write the Laws Act.
A final note: I am particularly insulted by the proposal to make the CFPA an arm of the Federal Reserve. All 317 House members and 32 Senators who co-sponsored the Audit the Fed bills must be insulted, too. Please do everything in you can to prevent the expansion of the Fed’s powers.

Stop Congress from Giving YOUR Benefits to Illegal Aliens
March 4, 2010
Below is a fax that you can send to your 2 U.S. Senators, by merely pressing the button below.

Urge Senate to Demand Worker Verification in Jobs Bill!
The Senate has passed a jobs bill, seeking to put many unemployed Americans back to work. Unfortunately they refused to include any worker verification provisions that would prevent illegal aliens from also gaining access to U.S. jobs. American workers will continue to face unneeded competition for jobs, as long as illegal aliens will be allowed continuous access to our job markets.
Countless times already the American public has spoken loud and clear about their disapproval for illegal aliens being allowed to work U.S. jobs while the government does nothing to stop it. Tell your Senators that without worker verification, many Americans will continue to be left out of the jobs they rightfully deserve.
ROY BECK , NumbersUSA President

|
DEAR SEN. (Your Senator’s Names Will Appear Here), I was disappointed to learn that the recent jobs bill (H.R. 2847) did not contain American worker protections. Please ensure that the next jobs bill has E-Verify provisions. More than 15 million Americans are unemployed, but more than 8 million illegal aliens have jobs. Doesn’t this seem unjust and unfair to you? I hope so, because I find it downright appalling. Unfortunately, H.R. 2847 will help unemployed illegal aliens (and would-be illegal aliens) just as much as it helps unemployed American workers because it does not mandate the use of the E-Verify system. I know you could not have modified this jobs bill because no amendments were allowed, but I expect you to support an E-Verify amendment to the next jobs bill (which the Senate will take up soon). Your constituents are depending on your to create jobs for unemployed Americans, not illegal aliens. Please don’t let us down. Sincerely, |
Weigh in on the White House Health Care Summit!
February 25, 2010
Urge the President and Senate Democrats at the White House Health Care Summit to Renounce Jamming through Obamacare in the Senate with only 51 votes! Take Action!
February 25, 2010
The White House Health Care Summit is underway and we’d like to draw your attention to Citizen Tube-where you can watch the summit LIVE from your computer at work or at home and submit your questions and ideas on health care during the event, and vote on which questions and ideas you think are the best!
The questions and ideas with the most votes at the conclusion of the summit will be asked of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH).
Eagle Forum strongly encourages you to join Senator Lamar Alexandar (R-TN) and his fellow Republicans at the summit and ask both President Obama and his liberal Democrat leaders in the Senate to renounce using the Budget Reconciliation process, which requires only 51 votes, to jam through Obamacare.
We encourage you to participate and to also submit calls and comments both through Citizen Tube and through the White House comment line and via their website. The White House is targeted in this action alert, so all you have to do is “Take Action” as usual and your input will be relayed to the Executive Branch.

Obama Falsley Tries Another Stab at Pay Go!
February 18, 2010
Last week, Congress passed PAYGO, a bill that requires SOME new spending to be offset by other spending cuts or tax hikes.
It doesn’t go nearly far enough. We must tell Congress that the ENTIRE budget should be subject to spending cuts.
You may borrow from or copy this letter . . .
Congress passed a PAYGO bill (H.J. Res. 45) that . . . http://www.gop.gov/bill/111/1/hjres45
* exempts 150 programs from any future PAYGO cuts
* encourages the use of tax hikes to pay for new programsThe President congratulated Congress for passing this bill, and then announced a three-year freeze on non-Defense discretionary spending.
Nice try, but there’s something wrong with this picture . . .
* PAYGO doesn’t apply to automatic increases in current entitlement spending, only to new programs
* Defense accounts for 40% of discretionary spending
* together, entitlements and defense account for two-thirds of the proposed budget
* the projected budget deficit is LARGER than ALL OTHER government spending
* tax hikes will only delay or prevent economic recoveryI know what you’re afraid of . . .
* if you address mandatory entitlement spending, you’ll be accused of hating the elderly, the sick, the poor, and veterans
* if you curb Defense and Homeland Security spending, you’ll be accused of undermining national securityBut Defense spending and entitlements are the main culprits behind our fiscal mess. And if nothing is done to address these problems now, America will be much poorer and weaker for generations to come.
I’m writing to tell you that NOTHING should be “off the table” when it comes to spending cuts. I encourage you, the entire Congress, and the President to . . .
* reassess the effectiveness of America’s vast military presence overseas, and of our entire Military-Industrial Complex
* find ways to cut costs and reform entitlement programs, including allowing individuals to withdraw from these programs
* reconsider many discretionary programs for both their Constitutionality and effectivenessA smaller federal government is no longer just an “option,” it is REQUIRED. We simply cannot afford Big Government.
If you commit yourself to cutting spending in ALL areas, I will applaud and support your efforts. Please respond and tell me you will do so.

Protect yourself from an unconstitutional money system
February 17, 2010
Last week we launched our campaign for the new and improved Free Competition in Currency Act. Today, please continue educating Congress about this bill.
You may copy or borrow from this letter . . .
Supporting this bill will enable you to honor your oath of office. The 10th Amendment to the Constitution limits federal powers to only those functions the Constitution specifically mentions. Congress has no power to . . .
* pass a legal tender law
* create a central bank
* create money (the Constitution only authorizes the federal government to make coins out of *existing* gold and silver money)This means that our current system is the exact opposite of what the Constitution requires . . .
* The Federal Reserve, created by Congress, is the nation’s central bank
* Congress has conferred legal tender status on Federal Reserve Notes
* the Treasury’s gold and silver coins are simply collectibles that cannot be used as moneyThe Free Competition in Currency Act would reverse this unconstitutional scheme by . . .
* repealing the legal tender law that established the Federal Reserve’s money monopoly
* allowing the private minting of coins that can be used as money
* prohibiting state and federal taxes on precious metal coins and bullionThese changes would . . .
* allow individuals to settle payments with each other on mutually agreed-upon terms, using Federal Reserve Notes, gold, silver, or any other form of money they might choose
* compel Federal Reserve Notes to compete with other forms of money, such as gold and silverThe Federal Reserve System is unconstitutional and should be abolished. The Free Competition in Currency Act will . . .
* allow the creation of a free market money system parallel to the Federal Reserve system
* prove that we don’t need the Fed
* provide a stable transition leading to the Fed’s ultimate abolitionSupporting the Free Competition in Currency Act will show me that you are committed to . . .
* Honoring the Constitution
* Protecting the value of my money
* Fostering my freedom to choose

Ensure Balanced Approach to America’s Offshore & Ocean Resources
February 5, 2010
The Obama Administration established an Ocean Policy Task Force last year to propose policies for the management of our oceans and coasts, as well as the resources and activities within those waters. The Task Force has released an Interim Framework for Effective Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning (the framework) that (if implemented) would significantly impair our nation’s ability to safely develop its own offshore energy, including oil, natural gas and renewable energy, and to engage in other economic, commercial and recreational activities.
If the Administration adopts a system of coastal and marine planning that ultimately restricts access to our nation’s ocean resources, it will pose a significant threat to our economy, our national security and our rights to responsibly utilize our common resources – undermining our ability to produce our own energy and hurting consumers in the long-run.
Consumer Energy Alliance is calling upon President Obama and his Task Force to adopt a framework for coastal and marine spatial planning that successfully recognizes the importance of striking a balance between the protection of our oceans and their economic uses, particularly where responsible energy production is concerned.

The Washington Democrat Plan: No limits on debt, spending, or arrogance
February 5, 2010
Americans for Prosperity - The toughest part of fighting back against big-government liberals these days is to keep up with all the reckless choices they make with our money and freedom.
You might have noticed, for instance, that Senate Democrats just voted to raise the federal “debt ceiling” – the maximum amount Washington politicians can borrow on the backs of our children and grandchildren – by an eye-popping $1.9 Trillion. Let’s just hope and pray that Obama does not know what comes after a trillion.
That’s the largest national debt increase in American history – and it paves the way for yet another wild Washington spending spree our kids and grandkids will have to pay for.
Our friend Steve Moore, a FOX News contributor and Wall Street Journal editorialist, recently pointed out that at his current rate of spending, President Obama will pile up more national debt in just his first 3 years than every other president combined.
You and I know that this massive big government spending threatens our prosperity and kills innovation and private sector job creation. In future years, my four children and yours will see their taxes used to pay for this big spending.
Sadly, it’s already here. This past December, the interest alone on our current national debt cost $100 billion. Here’s the point. We know the threat of this massive spending, but many of our fellow Americans do not. We’ve got to educate them on the dangers of the Obama spend-a-thon. We’ve got to tell them about the proposed $3.8-trillion Obama budget filled with a deficit of at least $1.6 trillion. We’ve got to get more of our fellow Americans involved in the fight for America’s future.
It’s critical that Americans for Prosperity keeps up our aggressive efforts to get these facts out and tell Americans the truth about the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda – and that we keep giving common-sense Americans a way to fight back and make a difference.
So, I’m asking you to contribute financially today to our Obama Debt Watch effort – an aggressive, integrated online and grassroots tool to get the facts out to our fellow Americans. CLICK HERE
We’ve got to make sure every American knows and understands why all the spending in Washington – and all the debt being piled up right now – is such a dangerous threat to our economic freedoms. While continuing to make sure they don’t bring back the health care takeover, and while launching another aggressive effort in 2010 to stop the radical environmental agenda, AFP must take the fight to the big-government side on their massive spending spree. The debt they are piling up will kill our economy in years to come.
But, we need your help to launch this new Obama Debt Watch effort.

Support: Help Defeat Efforts to Ban North American Energy and Increase Prices at the Pump!
January 7, 2010
The Low-Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) is being sold to the American public as a way to blend transportation fuels with low-carbon alternatives so that tailpipe CO2 emissions can be reduced. But the fact is that affordable and reliable lower-carbon fuel options are not yet available. As a result, an LCFS simply will increase the cost of diesel fuel and gasoline and will place certain domestic supplies of transportation fuels off limits. Increasing the cost of transportation fuel and U.S. dependence upon foreign sources of petroleum is simply unsound energy policy.
Join our effort to defeat these measures, which would put an economic stranglehold on America and leave U.S. consumers stuck with higher prices at the pump.
