Dems Running Scared on Drilling
July 29, 2008
As reported on Rush Limbaugh, a piece today from the American Thinker Blog by Rick Moran.
Majority Leader Harry Reid [could he be leaving clueless status??? - Editor] is feeling the heat on the offshore drilling issue. He and Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Jeff Bingham have crafted a bill that would open nearly a billion new acres off the coast of Alaska for study as well as accelerating Gulf of Mexico leases.
The legislation, drafted by Reid and Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), would open nearly a billion new acres off the coast of Alaska to study for drilling. It would also dramatically accelerate oil leases in the western and central Gulf of Mexico.
“I am unalterably opposed to drilling,” said Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, who cited a massive oil spill that closed nearly 100 miles of the Mississippi River last week. [And let's not forget about the natural oil leaks that darken the coast every year due to Mother Nature's seepage. Let's shut her down too. Someone give us the statistics of the number of times this has happened compared to the number of places we drill in a year. - Editor]
Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) urged Reid to be “very careful about drilling off the coast of Alaska.” [Aren't we always? The area they are discussing in ANWR has been covered in another post on this site.
Reid could also face resistance from other Democrats who oppose drilling off Alaska’s shores.
The Democrats are sticking out their chins begging to be wallopped on this issue and Reid wants to defuse the matter by appearing to bargain about drilling. Republicans should leap on this timidity immeditately and counter with a broader, bolder initiative to include the Atlantic shelf as well.
One thing is for sure; Republican challengers have a solid issue to run on against their Democratic opponents this fall.

Several blogs reveal that Democrats don’t want lower gas prices!
July 1, 2008
Today after googling “democrats for lower gas prices” we found the following two sites. Unfortunately, the articles actually reported the opposite. According to Harry Reid’s (cluess representative) Give ‘Em Hell Harry user comments, they actually want HIGHER gas prices. So this is what you will get if you vote Democrat this fall, I am sorry to say. To their credit, there is a petition to have a 90 day moratorium on the federal gas taxes, but this is only a temporary solution. And if it is good to do for 90 days, why not forever???
As a side note, Rush Limbaugh played a clip of Harry Reid talking about how burning coal and fossil fuels are hurting us… We disagree. It fuels the economy.
According to AboveTopSecret.com Blog, on June 11, 2008, Democrats voted no on a new bill to open drilling. Why? Because it was introduced by Republlicans?
Democrats stand to lose big on the oil issue
June 20, 2008
Chris Kelly has an OLD fetish… extreme environmentalism.
If you take what they are saying at the Huffington Post to heart, this oil run up is Bush’s fault. Chris Kelly (CLUELESS MEDIA TYPE) has just written a piece that says essentially that. It has been a Democratic talking point for over 4 years now. Enough is enough. We need to work together and solve this problem. Even liberals are tired of ever-increasing gas prices!
This article makes the dubious assertion that Senator David Vitter’s (HERO) new plan E.N.O.U.G.H, which stands for Energy Needed Offshore Under Gas Hikes, proposes to drill in the Gulf without consideration for the environment. Hogwash. US Oil companies are some of the cleanest, most environmentally conscious corporations, moreso than Venezuela, China or the Middle East. His points are ludicrous and ridiculous, but appropriate considering the audience he is writing for… a liberal left wing blog, not a place where there is a lot of real discussion. He says:
Here’s how Vitter says it works:
The ENOUGH Act would trigger increased energy exploration off a state’s own coast once the price of regular gasoline reaches $5 a gallon. Once the ENOUGH Act’s trigger is reached, it allows a governor, with the concurrence of the state legislature, to petition for increased energy exploration on the Outer Continental Shelf.
It makes a kind of brutish sense if you don’t think about it too hard. He’s not saying that the Gulf of Mexico isn’t a fragile ecosystem, or that we shouldn’t honor the earth and water, and guard them as a holy trust. He’s just saying once gas gets to five bucks, screw it. It’s every plant and animal for himself.
What a twit. We hate to start the name calling, but Mr. Kelly is obiously in the tank for those who would harm our country and our economy. How could it be anything else? This is a serious issue and he’s making jokes and throwing insults at the people who are trying to solve it!
One comment made the point that if Democrats don’t start to look for solutions, Republicans will own this issue in the fall and turn the election on its head. People will not stand for much more, not Republicans, Democrats or Independents. Mark our words.

Take a look at Andy’s Blog. He pretty much says what we have been saying. In his opinion (and we agree), the higher price per gallon has now overridden environmental concerns in the public forum.
