It’s the Economy, Stupid!
It’s one year after the stimulus and nobody, other than the brain-dead liberals who call into Sean Hannity’s show, think the economy is getting better. I have to laugh because no matter how hard you spin this one, the economy is not showing any signs of improvement. We just had another jobless report that experts say was higher than expected. If it’s always unexpected, then why are these people the experts? And who are they anyway? I want names so I don’t accidentally take some of their advice.
As I reported the other day, the only sector that seems to be growing is government. Along with the growing number of jobs are the growing salaries. Is it going to be that the only jobs we can get are in government? It won’t work and I’ll explain why in a minute. While the economy loses more and more jobs in the private sector, can this possibly be the goal or our current administration? I hate to think the worst of our elected politicians but could they be hoping that things get so bad we all rely on government for our handouts? And once that happens will we elect and re-elect a Democrat majority who will continue to give us those handing out the goodies? Here’s my question. What happens when everyone is in the cart? Who will pull it? How long can the printing presses continue to spit out money before they run out of ink?
Walter Williams was host on Rush’s show last week. I think it was a rebroadcast of an earlier show, but he is the first to use the analogy that I have been putting forth for some time. It was this. Think of the economy as a swimming pool and government is a bucket. The only money government gets is from those who work and produce. So take a bucket full of water (taxes) out of one end and dump it into the other end. For a few minutes it causes ripples, but the water level hasn’t changed. Sorry if I am repeating myself, but this is one reason government stimulus will NOT work. A second one would just be another mistake that takes money from the private sector for investment or creating jobs and gives it to the bureaucracy to pay itself to do essentially nothing toward solving the problem. Some call it a Democrat slush fund to buy votes in November. I can believe that.
Eagle Forum had a piece today talking about the causes of unemployment. While it offered no solutions, it did explain what is happening with many of the jobs that used to be done here in our country. They are being outsourced to places like China and India where people will do the same jobs for much less. Corporations move their operations there because there are less regulations. If illegal aliens come here and do the jobs Americans won’t do, pay no taxes and suck off the welfare trough, what will happen to us? You are beginning to see the results, and it is only bound to get worse if something doesn’t change.
Heritage said today the economy is showing signs of improvement. You could have fooled me, but let’s say for a moment that it is so. Is this what Democrats are hoping for? That the economy will come back on its own? We are a resilient nation, probably the one thing that gives me hope (real hope) for our country’s future. But the fact it is improving because of the government stimulus is a fallacy. It also could be that I ate chicken yesterday. Just because two things happen at the same time does not mean one caused the other. As in the swimming pool scenario above (and a comparison Heritage also makes in this article… great minds think alike), students of the economy KNOW that the stimulus is NOT what is bringing about recovery. In fact, in my opinion, it will probably have more to do with consumer confidence than anything. The worst thing that could happen now is that the economy starts doing well, Democrats erroneously get credit for it from the voters because of the stimulus. This would then set us up for a bigger recession in the not to distant future!
Economist Vox Day is quoted in World Net Daily today as saying we are headed for another great depression if things don’t change and politicians do something different than the way we’ve done it in the past. “When it comes to economic predictions, Vox Day is so accurate it’s scary. Scarier still is the content of his predictions.
“He’s forecast the sub-prime meltdown, the home-value crash, unemployment figures—right down to intricate details and key dates. He recently predicted the collapse of even more banks. He says the expansion of credit, which is necessary to provide what passes for growth in a credit-based economy, has ended.”
Essentially he says we are in for tough times unless something changes. That will be up to us. The mid-term elections may be the make it or break it for our country. It will be necessary for politicians to challenge the conventional wisdom and labels to educate the votes and do what’s right because it’s the right thing to do… not because it gets them re-elected.

I listen to the liberals who call in to the talk shows and realize we will never please them. The good news is they are in the minority. True, they are a loud minority with friends in the House, Senate and White House, but come November 2010 they will see what they are up against.
Up until Obama’s election, liberals have been flying under the radar. True, Pelosi was starting her agenda even when Bush was President, but after the inauguration it was full speed ahead. No amount of tea party protests would dissuade them from doing their dastardly deeds. From government stimulus to corporate bailouts and buyouts, people were upset as they should be.
Now we are up against health care. This is the lesson I want to impart to anyone who will listen. Just as Republicans thought getting someone with an R behind their name elected to office was most important regardless of what they stood for, Democrats are making a similar mistake with the health care “pass it at any cost in any form just so we get a win” mentality.
Republicans made the mistake of accepting the likes of Jim Jeffords (who later switched to Independent but would caucus with Democrats) or Arlen Specter who changed parties AGAIN, this time back to Democrat! Even choosing John McCain through allowing open primaries was a huge mistake and helped get Obama elected. Had McCain won, however, there may not have been as big of an opportunity to change things as there is right now! A chance at a second revolution, if you will.
So let’s look at the Democrat playbook. We now have a bill that Senators had to be bribed to vote for it AND they had to be allowed to opt their states out of the program. How good can it be if they want out? And if it’s that bad, why did they vote for it in the first place? Ben Nelson is not up for re-election in 2010, but could face a recall if Nebraskans get wise. He needs to go now rather than later. Sure his state gets goodies paid for by the treasury, but they will be taxed first to pay for them; out of one pocket and into another. What a great system! So my point is, this “must get something passed no matter how bad it is just to say we won” attitude is going to KILL the Democrat party.
Watch the special elections in January and see if this doesn’t bear out. Places that used to be Democrat will now be represented by Republicans. We already saw it in December’s special elections back east. Let’s just hope it is in time to save our country.

Now I know why they didn’t catch the underwear bomber before he lit himself on fire and passengers took him down. It is because their head, Janet Napolitano, is profiling the wrong people.
You may remember that back in April of 2009 she distributed a memo telling Homeland Security to watch out for people like us… what she called, “right wing extremists”. So while they are looking for us Constitution reading conservatives, Napolitano has dropped the ball and allowed terrorists to once again rule our flying lives.
Most recently after the Delta flight where the terrorist tried to detonate the explosive underwear he had on, Ms. Napolitano said it showed the system worked. If she is talking about the American spirit, then the system did indeed work. Alert passengers took him down. But if she is talking about Homeland Security, she couldn’t be more wrong. Her failed “system” nearly cost over 200 people their lives.
There were a lot of “ifs” in that incident. But the gist of the story is, if someone is on the no fly list or is a suspect of being a terrorist as this fellow was, then buys a one way ticket in cash and has no checked luggage, that should be a concern and set off all sorts of red flags! But since we don’t have a “war on terror” anymore this will probably happen again and again. The flying public will be the ones to pay the price with longer lines and tighter security because TSA is afraid to profile. (Note: You wouldn’t believe the number of Mormon grannies who are trying to smuggle bottles of liniment oil on the planes these days!)
Is it any wonder that radical Muslims get a free pass when our government is looking at its own citizens just so they don’t offend anyone? Bottom line? Napolitano should go. She has been an embarrassment to Obama and to the country. But as Truman said, “the buck stops here.” So essentially it is Obama’s fault for picking her in the first place.

Not long ago, our Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared in Copenhagen at the United Nations Global Warming Conference to give a speech about how California has led the way in climate change legislation while still providing a robust economy.
“We have shown we can do both,” he said. Excuse me?
California’s unemployment rate was over 12% in August of 2009 and is probably much higher by now. Much of this is due to the fact that regulations and legislation have chased many businesses out of the state to places like Texas, Nevada and Arizona (all red states, by the way). So much for his claim to a robust economy. You can’t have employment with no businesses and without employees and employers paying taxes, there is no money to run the state government. Legislators can not balance the budget with revenue shortfalls.
Now instead of solving our economic woes like maybe allowing drilling offshore in order to get some of those lucrative oil lease revenues, our state representatives like our brilliant Jared Huffman are busy banning things like trans-fats in restaurants. The theory is that trans-fats are making people obese. The next thing they will go after is sodas (they already have banned the machines on school property) and snack foods. But none of these things produces one bit of revenue or helps the economy. In fact it most likely hurts it. When does it stop? Besides, I don’t see people getting thinner because of this legislation! Enough is enough.
Our nanny state is in such a precarious position that it is starting to crumble before our very eyes. The only infrastructure projects that are happening on our highways are paid for by government stimulus money given to us out of “Obama’s stash”. What people seem to forget is… we don’t have it to begin with.
California is broke. The US government is broke. Yet they all keep spending our money like it magically appears out of thin air. Actually, in the case of the federal government, it does as the printing presses continue to whir away. Experts predict with all this frivolous spending and printing of new money, inflation has nowhere to go but up. In fact, if it weren’t being held down artificially by the Fed, it would probably be double digits right now. It can not continue forever if they want the economy to come back.
The story is that in Russia money became so worthless from policies similar to those we have today that people would carry around wheelbarrows full of rubles. They had a popular joke which went like this. A woman went into the bakery to buy some bread and left her wheelbarrow full of money outside. When she came back to get cash to pay the baker, the money was still there, but the wheelbarrow was gone.
If California goes belly up, we still have other states where we can move. But if the US goes belly up, the whole world loses. It will be too late for conservatives to say, “I told you so.”

Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor,
I have been hearing about provisions of the health care legislation which is now in conference between the house and senate. I am amazed at what I am hearing. There are so many special exemptions and distinctions, it seems as if people are doing their best to avoid having to participate. Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska got a huge pork barrel payoff from Harry Reid to vote yes, AND his state will be exempt from the program. Logical people would ask if this is such a good program for the country, why are states voting for it only if they can opt out of it? This seems the bill is only historic in how bad it is!
People of California should be very afraid of our representatives who voted for this twisted mess. Both Senators Boxer and Feinstein supported the senate version. Granted, we will not be sent to jail for not buying health insurance and only fined, unlike the version for which Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey voted. But if Nebraska can opt out, why can’t California and the other 48 states? And if they do, then who gets covered? Even supporters of single payer should be outraged at this attempt to “get anything passed” and demand they go back to the drawing board and start over.

Daily Rant – December 17, 2009
December 17, 2009
Back in 2006 there was a public backlash against earmarks. McCain, to his credit, was trying to reign them in but was unsuccessful. It was even part of his 2008 campaign, but we all know how that turned out. However, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. As late as 2009, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D, MO) said she was against earmarks. So it would seem that this is a bi-partisan issue. What happened to the public outrage? Perhaps it is in the background because health care and cap and trade are at the forefront of our discontent.
The word “earmark” (also known as pork spending) specifically means, “something set aside for a specific purpose, use or recipient”. In politics, it is taking money from the public treasury (whether we have it or not) and giving it to a congressman who then gives it to his or her district or state for a pet project. This means people in Alaska and Iowa might very well be paying for a park in wealthy Beverly Hills because Henry Waxman (D, CA) was “bought off” for his vote in the House. Like Beverly Hills needs to be subsidized by Alaska or Iowa? Some Republicans have been just as guilty.
Recently Senator Mary Landrieu (D, LA) was offered $100 million in pork for her vote on health care. Unfortunately, it’s how business has been getting done in Congress for a long time. One of our MCF members recently uncovered a $200 thousand earmark for Center Point Inc given by Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D, CA). This is small potatoes compared to deals made in other areas of the country. It makes Woolsey look like a piker! These politicians are very generous with our money, aren’t they? Who knows where the money is coming from now that our national debt is over $12 trillion?
Are these politicians working for belief or for benefit? In other words, if there was no money attached to it, would they still be for the program? Many times, the answer is, “no”. The saying goes, if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything. This certainly seems to be the case in Washington.
We, the people, are fast becoming aware of how expensive government solutions are. They always promise it will be cheaper, provide more competition or be budget neutral, but we all know this is a lie. Nothing government has ever done cost less than was estimated. But two or three years ago we were fat and happy so many of us were too busy to raise a fuss. Now in the middle of a recession, people are waking up. Tea Parties are getting louder. Protesters are not going away any time soon. Excessive spending is becoming terribly unpopular. Since Democrats are running all three branches, they are taking the blame, and rightly so. Bush was a big spender, but Obama and the Democrats have put it into overdrive.
If I were going to run for Congress, I might think about using getting rid of earmarks as part of my platform. Of course, it takes more than one Senator or House member to make that change. But if people can be educated, it could be a winning issue.
For example, I would bet that California sends more money OUT of the state to Washington than it gets back in earmarks. I would also bet this is true for most of the states. So where does it go? Money is sent to DC where a bunch of bureaucrats are paid six figure salaries to manage and distribute that cash to give back to various pet projects of the fat cat politicians (using Obama’s description of bankers and turning it back on him) who voted themselves another pay raise in 2009! Let me get this straight. The rest of the country is in a recession and cutting back, but Congress, thanks to its stellar performance in 2009, deserves a pay increase? But that’s not my main point. What I am saying is, look at the “Federal balance sheet” and you would see trillions of dollars going to Washington and just disappearing. What gets sent back to the states is minuscule compared to the taxes they take in.
California is in debt and could sure use that money. How about we keep the money here in the state and pay for our own projects? Gov. Sarah Palin (R, AK), did just that when she was still in office. Perhaps it’s time to say, “Thanks, but no thanks.” But it’s going to take some strong leaders to make this happen.

Daily Rant – December 2, 2009
December 2, 2009
After a wonderful vacation in Hawaii, I am ready to get back to work. This Obama bum is getting on my nerves. I don’t care if he is the President of the US, he dishonors the office. But in the meantime, here is an article I posted about the global warming hoax.
Man Made Global Warming Hoax Exposed – OPINION
My biggest beef with the “science” of man-made global warming is that this hoax is being used to make policies which are hurting America. If people believed it and went on about their business, that would be one thing. But they are in our government which is forcing all sorts of decisions and taxes upon us based on this lie.
It has been shown that prosperity creates a cleaner environment so why would environmentalists want to trade all that for everyone living in a hut and pooping in a compost? Sheryl Crowe wants us all to be limited to one square of toilet paper. So much craziness abounds. Why would that be?
Because if there is no crisis, there are no dollars. If the earth only has 10 years before all is lost (as was reported 20 years ago), who wouldn’t throw billions of dollars at studies to see if we could reverse the trend? Seas were supposed to boil, crops were going to burn, forests were going to become deserts. So under this pretense, what we did was throw money at the problem to try and solve it. The problem was, the crisis was created to tug at our heart strings and pull at our wallets. Plus, no progress has ever been reported, no matter how much money we seem to spend.
The media has gone right along with the hoax as willing accomplices. Even commercials have gotten into the act and jumped on the “save the planet” bandwagon. All of this reinforces the notion that global warming is really happening. The only problem is that no warming has happened for the past 10 years. And why has the sun’s activity been taken out of the discussion altogether?
When having my discussion with seemingly reasonable people about the latest discovery of the e-mails illustrating the scam being perpetrated by many in the “global warming industry”, I often come up against the argument that man has certainly made his share of messes in the world. While true, is this evidence that man is causing global warming? Or that the earth’s temperatures are really rising? I don’t think so. I admit man can make a mess of things. But how long would the destruction last if we just left that area alone to nature?
In Panama, a project we are involved in was stopped for over two years because of financial and union issues and was essentially deserted. They had to hire people to “beat back” the jungle which kept threatening to overtake the land that had been cleared and building had begun. Many of the structures that had been started had to be torn down and rebuilt because of decay and pests after construction started up again. My point is, even on a small scale, this shows how nature finds a way to reclaim what was once belonged to it. If the earth recovers when man goes away, isn’t this same recovery happening while we are standing around in the middle of it? Over time, the earth recovers because there is a greater intelligence running things.
So if we can’t count on science to tell us the truth based on the facts, then it just becomes politics. If people are ignoring facts to prove a preconceived conclusion, then they are not scientists, but manipulators. And make no mistake; these people are zealots. As with any zealot, they have their followers.
Actor Ed Begley Jr. and people like him live their whole lives around the global warming lie. They are so invested in being right, they bristle when challenged at the notion that maybe they have been lied to. As a result they become willing dupes in the propaganda. Because of their notoriety, people listen to them and believe what they are saying, even though they have no background in science. Will we ever get an apology from them? I think they are so invested in being right that they will go to their graves convinced they are right, regardless of the truth. Just like the people who believe that 9/11 was a planned event, they will not be talked out of their beliefs.
Al Gore, king of the environmental movement, has a house that consumes many times the amount of energy as a common household does in year. While flying around the world in his huge jet from appearance to appearance, he tells us we must all do our share to cut our carbon output. I say walk the talk, Al.
What really amazes me is Gore’s carbon credit scam. In Mill Valley, I see people proudly displaying “TerraPass” bumper stickers saying to the world, “I’m gullible as hell!” The mathematics of this scam don’t work out. Let me get this straight. They are paying for the privilege to pollute more than their share by buying credits from someone who doesn’t pollute as much? How does that REDUCE carbon output? It doesn’t. We are also told these carbon offset companies will plant a few trees on your behalf. Has anyone proven that the trees actually been planted? And has anyone done the math on how many trees it takes to offset the carbon footprint of one person? I just don’t believe the earth is that delicate.

Daily Rant – November 23, 2009
November 23, 2009
Remember how Reid said the House Health Care Bill was DOA? Apparently he was lying… again. Not a single Republican voted for this bill to open up debate on it. It was all Democrats. I have heard several analysis of this step; everything from “it can still be defeated” to “95% of bills that get to this stage go on to become law”. Unfortunately, I believe the latter.
Republicans do not have the votes to stop it. And moderate Democrats as well as Democrats in fear of losing their seats were awarded millions of dollars in “pork” to buy their votes. Landrieu of Louisiana, with her seat in jeopardy, thinks she can buy her way into another term with the $100 million Reid siphoned off for her. All the money in the world can not sell a bad product. Reid himself is vulnerable.
So what’s our plan?
Step one: We need to educate seniors who their friends are, and it is not these Democrats. Just as the Republican threat to cut Medicare in their attempt to reform it turned seniors against them years ago, now it is Democrats who are taking money from this program to fund their version of Medicare for all. In Marin County, there are any number of seniors homes where we can canvass to get support for conservative candidates who actually like them. Once again, not a single Republican voted for this bill. Boxer and Woolsey both voted for this piece of… legislation in their respective houses of congress. They need to be defeated.
Step two: We need to educate women what it about to happen to them. The announcement that mammograms and pap smears really aren’t that necessary is only a sign of the rationing that is to come once this bill is signed into law. Just these two issues alone should let women know that these Democrats are not their friends.
Step three: We need to get the word out that this bill is EXPENSIVE. We don’t have the money. In order to make it look better in the Congressional Budget Office scoring, the Democrats did this; taxes will begin immediately but the health program won’t kick in for three years. That means we start paying now to receive benefits in three years. Those people who think this bill is going to mean FREE health care, need to think again. Payroll taxes will go up as soon as the legislation is passed. All this in a recession too. In anticipation of government run health care, I also predict many employers will opt to drop coverage for their employees to save the costs of benefits. Most will willingly pay the small fine in lieu of carrying coverage for their entire staff. That is when Democrats will really be in trouble, but by then it will be too late.
Step four: We need to educate anyone who thinks the H1N1 vaccination program was a success. I have heard cases where seniors were referred to county boards and rejected in favor of giving the vaccine to younger patients. This should scare the hell out of everyone. It an example of what to expect once government has control of our health care system. Seniors will be last to receive treatment since their productive days are mostly behind them. Boomers will be next.
We may have lost this battle, but we can win the war by taking back the house and senate in 2010. I believe Democrats have put the final nail in their own coffins with this attack on the American people. Not a single poll shows this health care bill is popular with the public. In Marin County it is only a small percentage of those people, like the ones who show up to support Mark Leno, that really want this monstrosity. They may be loud, but they are not the majority. Regardless, Democrats are not listening.

I’M TIRED! I don’t know about you folks, but I am tired of fighting every day. Here I am in Hawaii trying to take a vacation away from the craziness of Washington, DC, and Harry Reid comes out with a massive health care package of his own. Of course, it contains much of the same stuff we objected to in the Pelosi bill that Congress passed last week. It’s like they are not listening to us. No, it’s not LIKE… it IS that they are not listening to us.
Reid’s bill has the same abortion and illegal immigrant coverage we didn’t like the first time around, the provisions they promised to take out in the House, so you know they will try and put it all back once it is in conference. They must. There is no reason to pass the bill otherwise.
Some Republican heroes are stepping to the front to challenge this massive piece of… legislation by threatening to read the entire bill on the floor of the Senate. This is almost equal to a filibuster, is it not?
I am working on letters to the editor regarding Woolsey’s cap and trade votes and post them once I have finished. I also have a take on the Hopenhagen summit that I culled from listening to Rush and reading a few news stories. All this hot air in Washington is probably doing more to contribute to man-made global warming (if there is such a thing) than any amount of car exhaust or factory emissions!
Now I know how our parents felt during the years of WWII, only they were fighting enemies on the outside of our country. Instead, we are fighting the enemies who are inside our government!

Daily Rant – November 16, 2009
November 16, 2009
I have little post it notes all over my computer stand with topics, small and large, that I have not gotten to in the last month or so. I am going to put up a few of my random thoughts today and let them take me where they will:
- Democrat versus Democratic Party. They want to be called the latter and are offended when we use the former. Problem is, people in the Republican Party are Republicans, then why are not people in the Democratic Party not called Democratics? Besides, the name Democratic implies a more open form of government… which it is not. Talk about the lack of choices Democrats have whenever they trot out any of their programs. Look at health care. Speaker of the House, Pelosi, says, “participate of go to jail AND be fined!” How fair is that?
- If Obama supports the troops, why is he not sending more to help the ones that are already in Afghanistan. Even liberal blogs are bemoaning the fact that George Bush is not running the war on terror any more. That’s the problem with liberal presidents, by trying to please everyone, they please nobody!
- Helping people is not a liberal or a conservative idea. It is the way each side goes about trying to solve that problem which differentiates the two parties. Liberals seem to want everyone to participate in the process by taking money from all people (they say) and throwing it at the problem… give a man a fish. Conservatives want to tear down the obstacles so that everyone has an opportunity to achieve greatness… teach a man to fish. Without the rich and the middle class, there would be no money to give to the poor!
- Democrats keep talking about taxing the rich to pay for their programs. Why has this never worked? If if they have been taxing the rich after all these years, would Democrats like Ted Turner, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Oprah, etc. still have all their money?
- Whatever happened to pay go? Remember that? Obama came on several months ago and said all government programs would be based on a pay as you go system. This was when people were getting uncomfortable about all the deficit spending. The problem is, it was just a speech! Typical Obama; talk, talk talk. No action.
- MORON Health Care – How does the Pelosi bill boost the health care choices? I can see businesses, who now provide health care packages as part of their employee compensation, drop these Cadillac plans in favor of paying the $1500 fine that congress has proposed. It would be much cheaper for them to do so. What would you choose? Just as the Hawaii health care program went under after only a few months, so would the government program… except they would just print more money. Budget neutral? Fool me one, the stimulus, shame on me. Fool me twice, the financial institutions and car company bailouts, shame on me. Fool me three times, government run health care, what are you friggin’ stupid?
- For years, conservatives have been going about their lives and businesses while looking the other way. During that time, liberals have crept into every nook and cranny of government until we have a termite infestation that is about to bring down the house. This is the reason for the tea parties. Just as our founding fathers took charge in the Revolutionary War, so will we prevail. If we stick to the constitution and root out the malcontents, we will take our country back.
- I would like an audit of Medicaid. We have poured money into this program which was designed to insure people who are now asking for universal health care. If they won’t take Medicaid, then why would they take government health care?
- Recently there was a celebration on the anniversary of tearing down the Berlin Wall. Not a mention of President Reagan. If you get a chance to hear “Time of Your LIfe” by Tony Robbins, on one of the last tapes where he describes using OPA to meet Gorby. During a flight to the summit for world leaders, Tony wants to know what ended the cold war. Gorby finally breaks down and admits it was Reagan who, in the middle of an argument, stood up angrily and walked to the door. All of a sudden he turned around with a big smile on his face, held out his hand and said, “That didn’t go so well. Let’s start again. My name is Ronald. May I call you Mikhail?” Gorby said it caught him so off guard, he started laughing and thus began the negotiations.
- Everyone seems to forget history. We didn’t need a socialist approach to make this country great, but now this is the only way out of the recession? Humbug! (I just saw the animated Christmas Carol) This country got to where it is because of the FREE MARKET! Let’s try it. Less taxes, smaller government and lower taxes. The only sector that increased in the recent GDP numbers, government spending was the only segment that grew!
There is much more to come. I have many more post-its to go through!
