Poll: Chuck surges, catching Carly
April 22, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — DeVore for California today responded to the release of the Capitol Weekly/Probolsky Research poll on the Republican race for U.S. Senate in California, in which Chuck DeVore and Carly Fiorina are shown to be in a statistical tie. The poll, with a margin of error of +/-3.7%, showed Tom Campbell with 31%, Carly Fiorina with 17%, and Chuck DeVore with 14%. These numbers continue the polling trend in this race, with Campbell essentially flat, Fiorina continuing her steady decline, and DeVore continuing his steady rise.
Chuck DeVore said, “The story of my campaign has been the story of a slow and steady rise in voter awareness and enthusiasm. California’s Republicans are realizing that I am the only proven conservative in this race — and the only one who can beat Barbara Boxer. With this poll, my rising support finally intersects Carly Fiorina’s falling support. It won’t be the last time we overtake a rival between now and November.”
Leisa Brug Kline, DeVore for California campaign manager, said, “Chuck DeVore continues his climb in the polls first and foremost because he’s a strong candidate with an outstanding record. But he also benefits as Republicans turn away from the failing effort of Carly Fiorina. Her campaign is now in crisis: not only is she tied with us, but her FEC reports from the first quarter of 2010 reveal a financially troubled operation that is — when backing out the Potemkin village of the untouched self-loan and the massive unpaid debts — nearly half a million dollars in the red.
“What’s all that money gotten her? Nothing. That’s an operation that’s crumbling under its own weight; and it’s one that, for all its pretensions of facing Barbara Boxer, won’t make it past June 8th. Rumors are swirling that Fiorina is set to sack many of her high-priced and ineffective consultants, but it’s too late. There’s only one direction left for Carly for California: downward.”
Joshua Treviño, DeVore for California communications director, said, “In November 2009, Carly Fiorina became a conservative for the first time in her life. She insists it’s a genuine conversion, and now she has the opportunity to prove it. If the conservative vote is divided between a surging Chuck DeVore and a foundering Carly Fiorina, California’s Republicans face the real danger of nominating the pro-tax, pro-spending, pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage Tom Campbell. Conservatives must unify against this threat. In that light, we invite Carly Fiorina to end her candidacy and support a winning conservative: Chuck DeVore.”
Thank You, Mr. President

San Francisco Is Broke, But They Have Money for GreenFinanceSF?
April 14, 2010
Is this nuts or what? San Francisco if broke, but they push on with their lame GREEN agenda. Why should the city pay for people’s toilets and low flow shower heads? – Editor
San Francisco homeowners have a new way of paying for solar panels, energy-efficient appliances and low-flow toilets.
A new city-run program, GreenFinanceSF, will give San Franciscans the money to pay for such projects up front and let them pay it back through installments on their property tax bills. Berkeley pioneered the idea in 2007, and since then, hundreds of cities, counties and states have adopted their own versions.

Obama’s new drilling plans: Delay, Baby, Delay
April 5, 2010
American Solutions – As you may have heard, President Obama announced today that he would be opening up parts of the Outer Continental Shelf for offshore drilling.
While this may sound like welcome news, don’t be fooled. The reality is that what the President announced today amounts to just another great speech with no concrete action behind it.
The President’s plan actually pushes back offshore drilling until at least 2012 and blocks drilling in the Pacific Ocean and parts of the Atlantic. He also leaves off limits those portions of the Gulf of Mexico where experts believe there is the most oil and gas.
President Obama is asking us to trust him to proceed with drilling in the future, even though his administration has imposed one delay after another on responsible American energy development.
President Obama’s decision will trigger a public comment period where Americans can offer their opinion on the administration’s plans. As with the last comment period, we will be asking our members to submit comments to the Department of Interior supporting more offshore drilling.
When the next comment period begins, we will pass along detailed information on how you can voice your opinion for more offshore drilling, and we hope you will continue to be part of the fight for more American energy.
Thanks for everything you do.
Sincerely,

Vince Haley

API Addresses Obama’s 5 Year Plan
April 5, 2010
WASHINGTON, March 31, 2010 – American Petroleum Institute President and CEO Jack Gerard issued the following statement on the Interior Department’s Five-Year Plan:
“The announcement by President Obama and Secretary Salazar is a positive development. We look forward to reviewing the details of the proposal, and we stand ready to work with them to make this a reality. We appreciate the administration’s recognition of the importance of developing our nation’s oil and natural gas resources to create jobs, generate revenues and fuel our nation’s economy.
“Exploring for and developing our nation’s offshore resources could help generate more than a trillion dollars in revenues and create thousands of jobs to add to the already 9.2 million jobs supported by today’s oil and natural gas industry.
“As we move forward, we hope that consideration can be given to other resource-rich regions, such as the Destin Dome area of the Eastern Gulf and areas off the Pacific Coast and Alaska. We also need to ensure that the permitting processes are handled in an expeditious way. The oil and natural gas industry has a proven track record of safe oil and natural gas development and the majority of the American people recognize this by supporting greater offshore development for the benefit of their communities, their states and their nation.”
The Party of No – OPINION
March 30, 2010
Look at some of the things they have tried to outlaw or legislate out of existence in order to say no to freedom and personal choice.
- No to health care choice (everyone must now have health coverage or pay a fine). As we know, health insurance companies will be “starved” out of existence by having to compete with a government entity that doesn’t have to earn a profit. Experts say they have about 3 years before the government will be forced to step in and offer a public option… something Obama and Pelosi wanted from the beginning.
- No to following the immigration laws that are on the books with amnesty.
- No to smoking and tobacco products, though look at all the entitlement programs that are being funded by the taxes levied on them. What happens when everyone finally stops smoking? Where will the money for those programs come then? (If you are patting your wallet right now, you would be correct.)
- No to gun ownership, but I am told that even the most liberal of our representatives (Woolsey, Boxer, Feinstein and Pelosi) all have carry permits. I wonder if there is a way to get this information through the Freedom of Information Act? Of course, as we also know from our reading, the rules apply to us, not to them. That’s why there is a push to get a 28th amendment passed.
- No to trans-fats (Democrats in some states have passed this ban) as if trans-fats are the only thing that are making us unhealthy. And as if we will live forever anyway.
- No to salt (Same as above) which has been responsible for high blood pressure. You’d think politicians, knowing the health care system will be overburdened, would welcome death in any form… Sorry if this is politically incorrect!
- No to fast food, especially for children. We have an obesity problem. Does anyone else wonder when poor people are shown on the television they are all overweight? I usually associate poor with malnourished. I guess being fat doesn’t make you nourished. But it certainly doesn’t make you a Biafran baby either.
- No to choice of vehicles people drive as in the case of trying to raise mileage standards so as to put SUV and big car manufacturers out of business. Everyone should be driving an electric car… however, where will we plug them in if they won’t develop nuclear, let us burn coal, dam up rivers for hydroelectric. We saw what happened to Boone Pickens’ wind farm experiment. Even with government subsidies, he has given up!
- Here in Marin, they are saying No to PG and E in order to set up a second tier bureaucracy to run our power systems. Remember, PG and E is already regulated by the Public Utilities Commission. Now they want to lay another level of red tape on top which they “say” will lower our costs. Remember, PG and E will still have to manage their resources for the Marin group, so where will the cost savings come from? And what business has the government run right? I asked that question last week and am still waiting for an answer.
- No to petroleum.
- No to nuclear power.
- No to coal.
- No to hyrdroelectric.
- No to LOWER TAXES.
The list could go on. Any time liberals and “moderate” Republicans get an idea of what’s best for us (as in John McCain’s bill to control supplements) they are saying no to Freedom! To buy Sudafed I have to give them my driver’s license so they can record my name. It’s the same with many other so-called “over the counter” medication. Are they over the counter or not?
Make no mistake, reasonable people of all parties understand the process of how our economy works, and they are well aware that saying no to the free enterprise system only hurts our country. I have talked to several people who are leaving the health care industry while they can to find a job in another sector before there is a mass exodus from the sinking ship. After all, we have seen the kind of people who end up working for the government… which is what the health care industry will become, a wholly owned and run government program.
So when you run into that rabid liberal who starts calling you the party of no, lay into them with some of these facts or any others you can come up with. It may not change their mind, but you might feel better knowing the facts are on our side.

With Obamacare Now Law, Democrats Turn Their Attention to Cap-and-Trade Tax
March 23, 2010
Note: There will be an all out sprint to liberalism since Democrats know they are toast in 2010! Their theory is to get it while they can! – Editor
Newsmax: With the battle over healthcare reform won, President Barack Obama’s allies in Congress are turning their attention to climate change legislation — and drawing opposition from both sides of the issue.
Sen. John Kerry, a proponent of Congressional action on climate change, said administration officials can now “pour their energy and attention” into the issue.
“In the wake of healthcare’s passage, we have a strong case to make that this can be the next breakthrough legislative fight,” the Massachusetts Democrat declared.
“Climate legislation is the single best opportunity we have to create jobs, reduce pollution and stop sending billions overseas for foreign oil from countries that would do us harm . . . This can happen.”
In June, the House passed a bill that would approve a “cap-and-trade” system to restrict greenhouse gas emissions blamed for global warming. The Senate has yet to act on similar legislation.
Kerry hopes to win Republican support and is working with Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina on climate legislation, according to a report from AFP.
But most Republicans oppose climate change legislation, warning that it will harm the economy, and some have sought to take away the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to regulate carbon dioxide emissions.
Some environmentalists also oppose the House bill, which would curb emissions by only 17 percent by 2020 compared to 2005 levels — much less than promised by the European Union and Japan.
They also fear that a Kerry-Graham bill would likely back nuclear energy and offshore oil drilling — “anathema to some environmentalists,” AFP observed — and water down cap-and-trade provisions.
“If the senators feel it’s their job to move from what was one of the biggest corporate giveaways in American history to make something that’s even more friendly to polluting industry, that would be a huge mistake,” said Nick Berning, director of public advocacy at Friends of the Earth.
In a Newsmax interview on Monday, Sen. Kit Bond was asked if passage of the healthcare bill will embolden Obama and the Democrats to forge ahead with cap-and-trade and other items on their agenda.
“I hope it will not,” the Missouri Republican said.
“But as I believe the president has said, passage of this government takeover of healthcare — he didn’t call it that, I did — is a template for how we’re going to deal with the rest of the economy.”
Rachel Maddow to Challenge Scott Brown in Mass.
March 23, 2010
Note: If anyone ever tells you there is no media bias toward liberals, give them this example. – FedUpEditor
From the desk of Scott Brown: It’s only been a couple of months since I’ve been in office, and before I’ve even settled into my new job, the political machine in Massachusetts is looking for someone to run against me. And you’re not going to believe who they are supposedly trying to recruit — liberal MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow.
Rachel lives in western Massachusetts, and recently it was reported that the chairman of the state Democratic Party had apparently tried to reach out to her in an attempt to coax her into a race against me. You can read about it here.
The political season never ends, which is why I need your continued support. While my opponents strategize on how to defeat me in 2012, I’m going to continue to speak out against higher taxes, more spending and greater government control in our lives.
I relish being an independent voice in Washington, one that doesn’t march in lockstep with the rest of the Washington crowd. The Democratic Party bosses in Massachusetts disagree. They want a rubberstamp who will vote for their plans to expand government, increase debt and raise taxes. Someone like Rachel Maddow. I’m sure she’s a nice person — I just don’t think America can afford her liberal politics.
Rachel Maddow has a nightly platform to push her far-left agenda. What about you? I’d like to encourage ordinary American citizens concerned about the future of their country to get more involved in our government. I hope you were encouraged by my victory to become more politically active, maybe even become a candidate for office yourself. We can continue to push our movement forward by running for office, joining in rallies and petitions that challenge President Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s healthcare legislation, supporting campaigns against the tax-and-spenders or by donating time and money to office-holders and candidates who will restore the principles of our founders.
I’m grateful you are with me. Thanks again for whatever support you can provide me, and I look forward to joining in further victories with you down the line.
Sincerely,
Scott Brown

Support: Help Defeat Efforts to Ban North American Energy and Increase Prices at the Pump!
March 12, 2010
| The Low-Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) is being sold to the American public as a way to blend transportation fuels with low-carbon alternatives so that tailpipe CO2 emissions can be reduced. But the fact is that affordable and reliable lower-carbon fuel options are not yet available. As a result, an LCFS simply will increase the cost of diesel fuel and gasoline and will place certain domestic supplies of transportation fuels off limits. Increasing the cost of transportation fuel and U.S. dependence upon foreign sources of petroleum is simply unsound energy policy.
Join our effort to defeat these measures, which would put an economic stranglehold on America and leave U.S. consumers stuck with higher prices at the pump. Send in your comments today! |

DeMint Irks Republican Party By Going Conservative!
March 12, 2010
It looks like our efforts to stand up to President Obama’s radical agenda and to help elect principled leaders to the U.S. Senate has upset some Washington insiders in both parties.
Here’s the headline from the Politico this morning: “DeMint courts tea party, irks GOP” Click here to read more.
These attacks don’t bother me. I didn’t go to Washington to make friends and so far I haven’t been disappointed. I’m a proud Republican but I’m not going to make excuses for my party when it’s wrong.
Republicans in the House did something very important this week that should be applauded. They unilaterally adopted a one-year moratorium on earmarks, which are routinely used to buy votes for budget-busting spending bills.
Next week, I will force a vote to apply the earmark ban in the Senate to members of both parties. We’ll see who is serious about breaking the addiction to pork that has perverted the purpose of Congress and driven up our national debt.
I believe most of my Republican colleagues will support the ban, but some won’t because they still don’t get it. While they talk about cutting spending and debt, they keep voting for new government programs and against efforts to stop wasteful spending.
Now that voters outside the Beltway are beginning to notice, the Washington establishment is looking for someone to blame. Read the Politico story and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
While the establishment attacks me, it’s you they are afraid of. If Americans remain engaged and continue to hold Washington accountable, the establishment can’t continue with business as usual.
This is why we must rally support for Marco Rubio in Florida, Chuck DeVore in California, Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, and Michael Williams in Texas. These leaders have all shown that they have what it takes to stand up for conservative principles, even when it’s not popular.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Together, we will strengthen the U.S. Senate and take back our country.
Sincerely,

United States Senator
