Campaign Alert – 32 days until Election Day! Donate Now
Our Republican opponent, Dede Scozzafava, today suspended her campaign and told her supporters they are free to support anyone they would like. We would like to acknowledge the class and dignity with which Mrs. Scozzafava conducted her campaign and thank her for her continued service to our great state. She deserves our respect and appreciation.
And now the race for the 23rd congressional district truly becomes a two way race between a Nancy Pelosi democrat and a principled Conservative Republican. We cannot take victory for granted under any circumstance. Pelosi and comrades are poised to spend a fortune to win this seat. They are even airlifting in Joe Biden on Monday. We must continue to fight as if life as we know it depends on it, because it does!

Boehner Speaks Out!
October 27, 2009
Oct 21, 2009
Washington – Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement today regarding continued job losses in Ohio during the month of September.
“Earlier this year, the administration’s top economists stated that passage of the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ would ensure the nation’s unemployment rate would not exceed 8 percent. [It is now nearly 10 percent.] In July, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 11.2 percent. Since then, the unemployment rate has decreased, but only because thousands of Ohioans have given up their job search out of frustration with the failure of Democrats in Columbus and Washington to fix our economy and get people back to work.”
“As Ohio small businesses and families continue to struggle, everyone is asking, ‘where are the jobs?’ Today Speaker Nancy Pelosi is convening a panel of economists – the same economists who gave them advice on their fundamentally flawed ‘stimulus’ bill. Hopefully Democratic leaders will realize that with more than three million job losses since the ‘stimulus’ was enacted, now is not the time to push forward with their plans for a massive government takeover of health care that will harm small businesses, impose more than $820 billion in new tax hikes and make job losses even worse. Republicans have offered better solutions on the ‘stimulus’ and health care that will help small businesses create jobs and restore Ohioans’ hope for a brighter tomorrow.”
NOTE: According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report released this morning, Ohio has lost 258,100 jobs over the past year, ranking the state 6th in the nation for largest decline during that period. Ohio reported a 10.1 percent unemployment rate for the month of September, down from 10.8 percent in August. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services attributes this decrease to a growing number of Ohioans giving up on their job search. Two weeks ago, House Republican leaders sent letters to President Obama and Speaker Pelosi urging them to consider common-sense GOP solutions to help put Americans back to work. These proposals, some of which were presented to the president as early as his first week in office, were developed by House Republicans’ Economic Recovery and Health Care solutions groups.
Doug Hoffman is Leading in the Polls!
October 27, 2009
We’re winning! Last week we sent you an URGENT message about the special election in the New York 23rd congressional district. We asked for urgent donations from you and fellow patriots to help support Patriot Doug Hoffman. And you answered the call with flying colors! We began running key radio ads supporting Doug Hoffman, and they’ve made a huge impact by educating the voters about who’s running . . . And the results are nothing less than amazing . . .
Coming from behind, Doug Hoffman now leads the race by 8%!!!
Pro-amnesty liberals Dede Scozzafava and Bill Owens are tanking in the polls . . . and we have you to thank for it!
HELP CARRY DOUG HOFFMAN TO THE FINISH LINE!
Hoffman is a true patriot pledging to fight the deluge of hand-outs for illegal aliens coming down from the Obama White House and serial amnesty peddlers Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid……but his liberal opponents, Democrat Bill Owens and super-liberal pro-amnesty Republican Dede Scozzafava, are guaranteed to support whatever Pelosi puts in front of them. And the odd twist in this race is that Scozzafava, the Republican, is more liberal than the Democrat!
This race is CRITICAL because it sets the tone for and sends a message to Washington that we’re coming with our barrels loaded in 2010…aiming to take back our country from the leftists who’ve tried to destroy it!If you haven’t yet heard the Minuteman PAC radio ad, click the link above and listen. In fact, forward it to your friends and family . . . because every bit of support for Doug Hoffman is critical.
For the Republic,
Minuteman PAC’s latest polling of definite voters is showing Hoffman’s lead even greater with a 38% – 26% – 16% spread! Folks, in electoral politics, that’s a landslide!!!
And that’s because the Minuteman PAC radio ad – which you helped us run – is showing the voters that neither the Democrat nor the Republican candidate is acceptable…in fact they’re both deplorable on the issues.
What’s more, Scozzafava was rated even more liberal than her Democrat colleagues in the state senate.
This race could go any way at the last minute, so we’ve got to do everything in our power to EXPAND HOFFMAN’S LEAD . . . and the only way to do that is to
With additional donations from loyal patriots like you, we’ll be able to continue running these ads:

-$50 = 2 radio spots in NY-23
-$100 = 4 radio spots in NY-23
-$250 = 10 radio spots in NY-23

Health Care and Cap & Trade both require the Read the Bills Act
October 26, 2009
The healthcare bill and the cap and trade bill both threaten to completely remake two of the largest sectors of our economy. The President and Congressional leaders tell us these massive makeovers are so urgent that these bills must be passed soon — so soon that they can’t allow time to read them, even for 72 hours. But notice . . .
- They’re taking months to work out the gruesome details
- Most health care reforms won’t begin until 2013
- The effects of the cap&trade bill won’t be seen for decades
- After spending months on both of these bills, secret provisions will still be added at the last minute
In short, Congress is taking a long time to reach the point where they’ll rush these bills to a final vote, but then it will take years or decades for these bills to really take effect.
This is a contradiction. DownsizeDC.org’s Read the Bills Act would resolve the contradiction by compelling Congress to be deliberate.
Please send Congress a letter telling them they need to pass DownsizeDC.org’s Read the Bills Act.
You can use my letter as a model for your own, or simply past it into your personal comments . . .
Congress is taking months to craft legislation on health care and cap and trade. These bills will then have delayed implementations, or delayed effects. But despite these facts I know that you’ll rush them to a vote at the last minute, without taking the time to read them, understand them, or debate them. This is a contradiction.
I also know that many secret and probably unrelated provisions will be added to them at the last minute. This has happened so often in the past that I know you’ll do it again with the health care and cap & trade bills. This is irresponsible.
Neither I nor you will really know what you’ve passed for days or weeks after the final vote. This is intolerable.
It’s obvious to me that Congress cannot be trusted to behave responsibly, or even to follow it’s own rules. That’s why we need a law to make you behave. Please introduce and pass DownsizeDC.org’s “Read the Bills Act.”
END LETTER TO CONGRESS
You can send your letter to Congress here.
Please also add your website or blog to the Read the Bills Act Coalition. It’s quick and easy, and will build public awareness about the Read the Bills Act. In return, your site will be listed on our blog and be listed in a Downsizer-Dispatch. You can join at the DownsizeDC.org website.
Today we welcome 3 new members to the Coalition:
Finally, over the past three weeks the House passed 33 bills totaling 1,779 pages, and the Senate passed 18 bills totaling 1,728 pages. You can see the list of bills in the blog version of this Dispatch:

Palin Backs 3rd-Party Candidate in N.Y. House Race
October 25, 2009
This is a follow up to the story about Conservative Party candidate, Doug Hoffman, who should be the GOP choice for the candidate. Instead they chose a liberal by the name of Dierdre Scozzafava to run for the 23rd district seat. Palin backs Hoffman! If Republicans want to win again, I suggest they listen to her!
============================
Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has endorsed a third-party candidate over the GOP-backed contender in New York’s congressional special election, saying her own party has abandoned its core values.
The former Alaska governor, who was Arizona Sen. John McCain’s running-mate last year, said Thursday she was backing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over Republican Assemblywoman Dierdre Scozzafava in the 23rd Congressional District race.
Palin said Hoffman, a businessman, stands for Republican principles – smaller government, lower taxes and a commitment to individual liberty – and that Scozzafava is more aligned with Democrats.
The offseason race to replace former Rep. John McHugh, whom President Barack Obama named as his Army secretary, has drawn national attention to a growing splinter between Republican moderates and conservatives who say they want the party to return its core values.

Daily Rant – October 22, 2009
October 22, 2009
The other day Rush Limbaugh made a point that cap and trade supporters and global warming extremists are much like terrorists in that the latter send out other people to kill themselves for the cause, but will not do so themselves. Same with the environmentalists. Look at Al Gore. What a joke. If airplanes and big houses are wasting energy and causing pollution, then why is he leading the way with jet trips and huge mansions that suck energy? He should be leading the way and walking to all his gigs or driving a Prius and living in a one room log cabin.
So what’s good for us, does not apply to the liberal political elite. And people are falling for it! They are not making the connection. How can they not they see what hypocrites they are? If liberals in San Francisco really think humans exhaling carbon dioxide is ruining the world, then why are they not the first to lay down in front of a bus and take their own lives? Come on, lead the way! I dare you!
Same with Democrats supposedly caring for the poor… only if it means votes. You don’t see fat cats like George Soros, Nancy Pelosi or John Kerry standing down on the corner handing out their money? No, what we see is them dipping into our pockets and giving the needy OUR money! Now that’s compassion. And look at the ignorance rampant in the recent Detroit giveaway. Thousands of people showed up to fill out applications for money. I really wonder how much each of these people will actually get. And how much of those funds are eaten up in the bureaucracy created to manage that program? It would be more effective if they just dropped money from a helicopter and forget about the bookkeeping. Besides, these poor people don’t really know where the money comes from in the first place! It’s Obama Money! That’s why they voted for him!
The other day, we had our State Senator, Mark Leno, push the notion that studies showed poor dental care leads to more crime, and this is the reason we need government health and dental programs. Did the study also show that these same people all have eaten carrots sometime in their lives? My point is this; it is poverty that creates most crime. Those that have not want to take from those who have. If they don’t spend their booty on dental care is irrelevant, not the cause of the crime, just as eating carrots is also a coincidence. Yet they push this flawed study to promote what they really want, government run health care!
Finally, I am getting tired of people demonizing big businesses. Companies like big oil, big pharmaceuticals, insurance companies, financial institutions, etc. are constantly being run down by liberals. Here’s my question. These companies employ a lot of people. The companies pay a lot of taxes. The people they employ pay a lot of taxes. This money goes to run the government and to pay for social programs. So what happens when they go out of business? Who will be left to pull the cart full of freeloaders? When will things turn around to where businesses are being thanked for their contributions to the economy and not demonized?
As I have pointed out before, government does not operate for a profit. For this reason, it can not make the economy grow no matter how much stimulus they throw at it. In fact, government exists solely because of taxes they take from those of us who actually operate on a profit. So if they kill the golden goose, the American economy, with higher taxes and oppressive regulations, where will the money come from to run government? They are printing and borrowing money at an extraordinary rate to the point where that paper is not going to be worth much before long. The US dollar has already lost a lot of ground compared to gold and other currencies. How long before people wake up?
The Republican Party has yet to have a conservative voice step forward that supports the businesses that makes our country great. There are a lot of local races where Democrats are in danger of being ousted, but if the party keeps putting forward national candidates like McCain and Bush, we can expect Democrats to rule the day. Where are the conservatives?

Dick Morris Lays Out The True Cost of Obama Health Care
October 19, 2009
Whether or not you now have health insurance, Obama’s healthcare bill will cost you dearly. If you don’t have insurance, you will be required to buy it. The legislation specifies how much you will have to pay for the coverage before any subsidy kicks in. All during the campaign, Obama kept speaking about affordable coverage. Now it appears that his definition of “affordable” might be a bit elastic.
- If your household income is $66,000 a year, slightly above the national average, Obama’s healthcare bill will require you to spend 12 percent of your income — about $8,000 a year or almost $700 a month — to buy health insurance before you get any federal subsidy.
- Even those making less will have to reach deep into their meager resources to satisfy Obama’s statutory requirement. Families scraping by on only $44,000 a year will have to pay 7 percent of their income (about $3,000) on insurance.
- Even those making just $33,000 will have to ante up 4.5 percent of their income (about $1500) for health insurance.
- The required payments reach so far down the scale that those who are living at the federal poverty level of $22,000 will have to shell out 2 percent of their totally inadequate incomes ($440) for insurance. That Obama is charging premiums to those living at or on the border of poverty is absolutely incredible! And this from a candidate who pledged that he would not tax the middle class! If you have insurance, you will get hit by his proposed 40 percent tax on insurance premiums.
- When the tax — and the legislation — takes effect in 2013, all families making about $120,000 or more in combined household income (14 percent of all families or one in seven) will have to pay the tax.
- By the next year, 2014, the tax will hit every family making more than $100,000 (about 18 percent of all families or one in six)
- By 2019, 10 years hence, the tax will reach down to effect every family making more than $75,000 a year (31 percent of families or one in three).
The tax will take 40 percent of all premiums above $21,000. So if you don’t have insurance, you will be socked with a mandate to buy coverage and pay a hefty proportion of your income to do it and if you have insurance, you will be hit with an excise tax on the coverage.
(In theory, it is the insurance companies that have to pay the tax, but the Senate Finance Committee “assumes” that they will pass the tax along to their policyholders.)
Daily Rant – October 19, 2009
October 19, 2009
Who’s left to blame? Obama has blamed the press, the unions, right wing talk show hosts, insurance companies, health professionals, etc. for putting out lies about his health care legislation. Who is left?
Seems to me there are millions of people on one side of the health care issue and hardly anyone left on the other side. Granted, liberals don’t like it because it doesn’t go far enough, but the majority of people oppose it because it’s not American.
So think about who is left on the side who support Obama’s vision. Are these the people we see on the side of the road asking for spare change? No, these people are already covered by the myriad of social programs set up to help the homeless. Are they the seniors? No, these people are already covered either by private insurance or by medicare and medicaid. Is it the politicians who are pushing this because they don’t have enough insurance? No, in fact, they have the Cadillac of medical programs that follow them through the rest of their lives whether they are re-elected or not.
So why push this? Because it means CONTROL! It has to be. Let’s defeat this once and for all, and send these arrogant career politicians back to the private sector so they can experience what we all get to every day!

Daily Rant – October 18, 2009
October 18, 2009
The next time any Democrat says that we need to tax the rich think about this. Obama leaves New Orleans to show up in San Francisco for a $35,000 a couple fund raiser. Do you know any poor people who can afford to go to one of these? And if these are rich people why would they support Obama when they know he is going to tax the hell out of them? He isn’t and they wouldn’t.
Good news: Chris Simcox of Minuteman fame is running against John McCain for the Senate in Arizona! This is wonderful news. For a long time I wondered why a conservative state like Arizona would elect such a limp-spined representative like McCain. Here’s our chance to start changing the Republican Party from the blue-blood liberal eastern elites to one represented by the common folk. There are other races, and I will comment later this week.
