RESISTING O’S WORLD – STICK TO YOUR GUNS, REPUBLICANS

Gen. Colin Powell is wrong to say that the Republican Party must move to the center: Now is not the time to try for triangulation.
This is a time for the party to stand firm on its principles until this nation again comes around to the GOP’s way of thinking. This process will be driven by the consequences of President Obama’s program.
The challenge brought by Obama is no longer just theoretical: He means to pass the ultimate leftist agenda and has the votes to do so.
As a result, our nation will be unrecognizable well before the 2010 elections. Business will march to a beat drummed in Washington. The top producers will be hounded by confiscatory taxation. A majority will pay nothing or receive government welfare. Our health-care system will be destroyed. Illegal immigrants will be well on their way to citizenship.
Obama’s brave new world will be the subject of the 2010 elections. We believe that his Congress will be swept from power as a result.
We think that inflation will join a lingering recession — giving us recess-flation — and that high unemployment will continue. Voters will recognize the damage to their health care as bureaucrats weigh in to prevent them from getting the care they need. Our security and defense failures may well have cost us Pakistan, and the nightmare of a nuclear-armed terrorist state may have already come true (even before Iran).
All America will be watching the Obama fallout, and Republicans must be seen as a clear alternative — a strong voice for reversal of the harm the president will have inflicted — if they are to benefit from this catastrophe.
If the GOP is seen as a moderate force, a party just looking to split the difference, voters will cynically conclude that there is no distinction between the parties.
There is a season for triangulation and a season for confrontation. When America faces a new challenge — such as what the financial crisis now poses — we look to the left and right for new answers. We want the debate to rage. Those who seek to paper over are ignored. Such was the fate of the first President Bush in 1992 and of Sen. John McCain in 2008.
But once the debate has raged and the alternatives have been fleshed out, voters want a consensus, a Hegelian synthesis, on how to move in a new direction. They want to extract the best from each alternative and combine them. This is triangulation (a term coined by Dick).
To ignore the demand for synthesis and insist on continuing the debate is to suffer the fate of Sen. Bob Dole in 1996 and Sen. John Kerry in 2004.
This process — polarization, debate, synthesis and action — is how America has always moved ahead. We are not Japan; we use the debate to see the options. And we are not Italy or France; we come to conclusions and act upon them, eventually leaving the debate far behind.
Now another great debate has been born. The thesis is democratic socialism. The antithesis is free-market capitalism.
The Obama Democrats have posed the challenge. It’s up to the Republicans to fight along these lines. Compromise is not an option, yet.
At some point, the synthesis will set in. But now is the time for clear alternatives and sharp disagreement. Only later can we hope to extract America from the leftist clutches into which it has fallen.
Open Letter To Republicans
May 10, 2009
Dear Republicans,
It is important you know what we expect of you. If we wait for the conventional wisdom to take hold, we may never win another election. Look at the recent “listening tour” of McCain, Romney, Jindahl and others. We don’t need politicians to listen to us, we need you to lead us!
I have been writing to Michael Steele about the state of the local party in Marin County and told him I will not give another dollar until they make some changes at the state and local levels. I mailed the letter back in the post paid envelope they sent me from campaign headquarters. I have had enough of the party asking for money just to elect Republicans. Only if those Republicans represent the values I believe in!
What needs to be made clear is that almost half of the US voters did NOT vote for Obama or his socialist politics. I would suspect there are a lot of Democrats who are having buyer’s remorse as well. If we recruit conservatives that can articulate the differences in the parties, we could win the house and senate back in 2010. The Democrat policies are handing us a golden opportunity.
After all, the country’s problems started to become apparent shortly after Democrats took over the house and senate in 2006. Nobody anywhere has made that connection. All we hear is Pelosi harping on the failed policies of George Bush, but actually once Democrats had majorities in both the house and senate, it was her failed policies which have put our country in jeopary with surging debt. George Bush was only a willing accomplice who rarely vetoed legislation.
Now with control of all three branches they are moving at warp speed to make it impossible for the country to ever unravel the programs which provide union jobs to social workers. These union workers ensure Democrat votes for years to come. And all these programs require funding which means higher taxes, at least with Democrats in control.
It is a sad state of affairs, but Republicans have nobody else to blame. By running “moderate” candidates you have bought in to the notion that people want higher taxes and bigger government, only Republicans will do it better. WRONG! That is what cost us the majorities in the house and senate, Republicans spending like drunken Democrats. Why would the public vote for Democrat-lite when they can have the real thing? If you don’t wake up, the country loses.

New Obama Tax Increase Plan
May 8, 2009
Well Obama you have a lot of splainin’ to do! Chrysler is in bankruptcy court, GM isn’t far behind due to Obama’s incompetence and his incompetent administration that is set to announce a New Obama Tax Increase Plan.
The “Phony Stimulus” scheme’s $700 Billion is gone, there is no end in site and Obama has failed to help anyone. Now Obama “Slick Willy II” in true Clintonesque Style says it’s our fault and wants you and I to pay for it.
Chrysler filed for protection April 30 after the U.S. was unable to persuade secured lenders to swap $6.9 billion in claims for $2.25 billion in cash. A union retiree health-care trust was offered a 55 percent stake in Chrysler.
“This confirms the fear, which right along has been that the Obama administration is more sensitive or beholden to the unions than the bondholders,” Fridson CEO of Fridson Investment Advisors said. “It makes it clear that GM bondholders aren’t likely to be able to work out anything outside of bankruptcy.”
Obama has said the government doesn’t want to run a car company, so why not take the bondholders’ deal, which gets them out of ownership.
What Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas said in 2008 is true today.
“They can basically do whatever they want to with the money.”
In the whirlwind of the pre-election knee jerk economic reaction the Obama Bailout Plan has become a $700 Billion Crime, the biggest white collar crime in history. Obama said the top priority is fixing the economy but instead is pushing the same old liberal agenda.

Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas who helped lead a revolt against GOP leaders to sink the $700 billion Obama Bailout Plan said “I could say I told you so. It was so open-ended and we put so little accountability into it, they can basically do whatever they want to with the money.” The truth is, the American people have been duped and this is nothing more than a way to handout money to choice friends of corrupt politicians.
We saw the Obama Bailout changed by Nancy Pelosi to hand out money to GM and Chrysler. Billions that weren’t in the original Obama Bailout Plan.
Now what the American public feared has sadly happened. The government handed out money to anybody that wanted it. $700 billion gone with no accountability just closed automotive manufacturing plants.

Oil Tanker Crew Save Stranded Eco-yachters
May 7, 2009
An expedition team which set sail from Plymouth on a 5,000-mile carbon emission-free trip to Greenland have been rescued by an oil tanker.
A trio of environmentally-minded seamen had set sail aiming to make a “carbon neutral” journey to Greenland with the aid of solar power and the wind.
But the solar panels were ripped from the yacht amid rough weather, and the winds – reaching 68 miles per hour – were so harsh that they knocked over the boat several times.
The sailors issued a Mayday call late last week and the Overseas Yellowstone, an oil tanker loaded with 680,000 barrels of crude oil, came to their rescue roughly 400 miles off of Ireland’s west coast.
The rescued sailors have expressed heartfelt thanks to the tanker’s crew.

Would Colin Powell Please Just Go Away?
May 7, 2009
Our sentiments exactly. He represents what people think Republicans ARE. He is NOT. He is a Democrat in Republican clothing. He needs to really retire or change parties and speak for the other side. We don’t want him! – FedUpEditor
GOPUSA – Just when you think retired Gen. Colin Powell has really “retired” from the public scene, he reemerges long enough to grab a bit of the lime light, before returning to the depths of obscurity. Usually, when he does pop out to make a comment the media is all too willing to hear it because it likely means he will be bashing Republicans.
His latest rant is right in line with his standard M.O. In a recent speech, Powell took swipes at Rush Limbaugh, Gov. Sarah Palin, and made his usual claims that the Republican Party has moved too far to the right. Give Powell credit, when he sees an opportunity to be opportunistic, he seizes it. The problem is that he is completely off track and would be much better suited joining Arlen Specter and the Democrats.
In a speech given this week, Powell said, “The Republican Party is in deep trouble.”
Powell added that the party must realize the country has changed. “Americans do want to pay taxes for services,” he said. “Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less.”
Of course, as the story notes, Powell criticized GOP leaders for “bowing too much to the right.”
What in the world is Powell talking about? Over the last eight years, the Republican Party gave the country the massive prescription drug entitlement (big government); it continued practices of earmarks and pork (more spending); it tried numerous times to push amnesty through Congress (rewarding lawbreakers). And Powell thinks we moved too much to the right? It’s so easy to throw out a comment like that when he knows the media are listening. How about telling the truth some time? When you contrast the issues upon which Republicans ran and won and the situation today, it’s easy to see that we are losing because we abandoned our conservative roots. Not the other way around.
It would be interesting to analyze Powell’s statements line-by-line but that would imply that there is an intelligent debate to be waged. In reality, Powell is simply trying to score media points, and his endorsement of Obama in the presidential race is living proof.
At Least Chevron Is Doing Something About Our Energy!
May 6, 2009
Since the fools in Washington, DC won’t do anything, Chevron (and other oil companies, no doubt) are taking the problem into their own hands to provide us with the energy we need! Good news from as far away as Tahiti! – FedUpEditor
SAN RAMON, Calif., May 6, 2009 – Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) has announced that it has started crude oil production from its Tahiti Field, the deepest producing field in the Gulf of Mexico. First oil from Tahiti was achieved on May 5, 2009. Daily production is expected to ramp up to approximately 125,000 barrels of crude oil and 70 million cubic feet of natural gas before the end of the year.
The Tahiti Field is one of the largest in the Gulf of Mexico. It was discovered in 2002 and is estimated to contain total recoverable resources of 400 to 500 million oil-equivalent barrels. The total cost for the first phase of the project is $2.7 billion and represents one of 40 projects in which Chevron’s share of the investment is over $1 billion.
The Tahiti Field is located 190 miles (305 km) south of New Orleans, in approximately 4,100 feet (1,250 m) of water.
“Tahiti is a significant addition to our growing reserves and production,” said George Kirkland, executive vice president, Global Upstream and Gas. “It is another demonstration of our deepwater expertise, and our ability to execute an industry-leading queue of major capital projects.”
Tahiti is located at Green Canyon Blocks 596, 597, 640 and 641, approximately 190 miles (305 kilometers) south of New Orleans, and in approximately 4,100 feet (1,250 meters) of water. Primary pay sands are Lower to Middle Miocene from 23,000 to 28,000 feet and lie below a salt canopy ranging from 8,000 to 15,000 feet thick. The deepest producing well is more than 26,700 feet, a record for the Gulf of Mexico. Production is from two subsea drill centers tied backed to a floating production facility supported by a truss spar.
Chevron holds a 58 percent working interest in Tahiti and is the operator, StatoilHydro holds a 25 percent working interest, and Total owns a 17 percent working interest.
Chevron Corporation is one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies, with subsidiaries that conduct business worldwide. The company’s success is driven by the ingenuity and commitment of approximately 62,000 employees who operate across the energy spectrum. Chevron explores for, produces and transports crude oil and natural gas; refines, markets and distributes transportation fuels and other energy products; manufactures and sells petrochemical products; generates power and produces geothermal energy; provides energy efficiency solutions; and develops the energy resources of the future, including biofuels and other renewables. Chevron is based in San Ramon, Calif. More information about Chevron is available at www.chevron.com.

60 Minutes Distorts Chevron Lawsuits in the Amazon!
May 4, 2009
I got a note this morning from Mr. Higgs at Chevron in California regarding the piece 60 Minutes aired last night. I do not usually watch the program because of its liberal bias and lack of in depth reporting. But as it so happened, I actually saw the show he was talking about.
My wife and I had several comments on what we were being told as we watched the program. One of our thoughts was that this is nothing more than a money grab by a New York environmental lawyer who wants to become a famous trial attorney. Even though he said he would donate all his fees to some worthwhile cause if he won, it will no doubt get his name in the news, and he will benefit from having taken the case… even though there is no standing, in my opinion!
My wife’s father was an oil man for Phillips Petroleum and was the land man for the Alaska pipeline, so he knew well about the rabid environmentalists and their tactics. Although they act in the guise of being for the little guy, it is all about money, property, power and prestige, make no mistake.
The opening statement of the article to which we’ve linked below says it best, “When $27 billion is at stake, some companies would pay big bucks to win a PR battle, but one side of an environmental lawsuit doesn’t have to, since CBS is pushing its position for free.” Amen! – FedUpEditor
Justin Higgs – Chevron: I’m not sure if you saw 60 minutes last night. If by chance you caught the segment, I wanted to get this over to you to point out some of the inaccuracies portrayed in the piece. Given your background, I thought this would be of interest. Please let me know if you have any questions on this or anything else.

Those GREEDY Oil Companies
May 1, 2009
I say that facetiously. Compared to the Wall Street companies earnings, oil companies’ earnings were much less. Here is a report from API:
Here’s a little food for thought for you today. The oil companies’ earnings during the first quarter of 2009 are one-half of the earnings reported by the companies in the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) – 5.1 cents per dollar of sales for the oil companies, as contrasted with 10.2 cents per dollar of sales for the DJIA. These figures are based on the companies that have reported their first quarter earnings so far. More will report over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve produced a new fact sheet on oil industry earnings. It’s available here on Scribd, where you can download it quite easily.

True Bi-Partisan Vote in the House
April 29, 2009
| Unanimous GOP Opposition in House to Washington’s Outrageous Spending |
Joined by some of their Democratic colleagues, House Republicans today stood united against Washington’s outrageous spending habits sending a clear signal against a budget that spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. In the picture below, Rep. Boehner is holding up his voting card, which is what Members of Congress use to cast their votes. Boehner called this card “The Most Expensive Credit Card in the History of the World.” Click the photo to watch the entire Floor speech. |
