Heritage Foundation’s morning bell echoes our sentiments
July 3, 2008
From the Morning Bell, 7/3/08:
…As long as energy costs remained low, the rest of the country didn’t pay these policies much attention. But now that energy prices are rising, people are beginning to notice: especially in more rural parts of the country. Rural Americans have to drive farther to reach life’s necessities such as work, groceries and medical care. They also tend to be less wealthy than people in urban areas, which means energy costs eat up more of their budget. The Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) found that people in rural areas spend as much as 16.02% of their monthly family income on gas, while people in urban areas of New York and New Jersey spend as little as 2.05%.
Americans have a choice. Despite the fact that decreased U.S. consumption will do nothing to curb overall world demand for oil, demonstrating to the world that we are serious about developing our own domestic energy supplies can significantly reduce energy prices today. Luckily, more and more Americans are getting the message. According to the Pew Research Center support for more “exploration, mining/drilling, construction of new power plants” has risen 12 points to 47% since just this February. In the meantime, support for more “energy conservation/regulation” fell 10 points to 45%. In Februrary of this year, Americans opposed drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge 42% to 50%. Today they support it 50% to 43%.
Gore still guzzling energy like a maniac
July 2, 2008
We really are for people using as much energy as they need. Afterall, it’s a free country. But what about if that person is someone who is preaching conservation? Isn’t that a little hypocritical? It’s like saying, “You conserve your energy so I have more to use.” Though this story is only slightly related to the gasoline crisis, it does point to some of the people who are part of the problem, not part of the solution.
Al Gore [clueless] has been one of the leading faces on the man-made global warming crisis telling us to conserve and save the planet. But what is he doing? Newsmax broke this story today:
Former Vice President Al Gore is warning you and every other American we must drastically change our lifestyles and reduce our energy consumption. But Gore continues to fly private jets wasting thousands of gallons of carbon fuels — and a recent study of his home energy use found that Gore’s Tennessee home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month. Read the Full Story — Go Here Now.
Like we said, if people want to use energy and pay for it, that’s their business. But when they tell us we are using too much, and we need to cut down because we are heating the planet, and then continue to ignore their own warnings and use limitless amounts of energy, something needs to be said. It is hypocritical. My guess is he’s covering himself by purchasing carbon credits. But as most intelligent people can figure out, those are a scam. NewsBusters eloguently explains it.
Several blogs reveal that Democrats don’t want lower gas prices!
July 1, 2008
Today after googling “democrats for lower gas prices” we found the following two sites. Unfortunately, the articles actually reported the opposite. According to Harry Reid’s (cluess representative) Give ‘Em Hell Harry user comments, they actually want HIGHER gas prices. So this is what you will get if you vote Democrat this fall, I am sorry to say. To their credit, there is a petition to have a 90 day moratorium on the federal gas taxes, but this is only a temporary solution. And if it is good to do for 90 days, why not forever???
As a side note, Rush Limbaugh played a clip of Harry Reid talking about how burning coal and fossil fuels are hurting us… We disagree. It fuels the economy.
According to AboveTopSecret.com Blog, on June 11, 2008, Democrats voted no on a new bill to open drilling. Why? Because it was introduced by Republlicans?
Internet E-mail about ANWR
June 29, 2008
ANWR is the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. Democrats oppose drilling there because it is a pristine wilderness that we need to protect. Oh, really? What this e-mail points out is the truth about where the drilling will actually be and the truth about the area including maps and pictures.
We tried to verify this on SNOPES but were not able to find any mention of it, so we present it here without vouching for its accuracy.
|
FIRST – do you know what ANWR is? |

|
Now some perspective: |

|
NOTE WHERE THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT AREA IS. It’s in the ANWR Coastal Plain. THESE ARE PICTURES OF WHAT THE DEMOCRATS, LIBERALS AND GREENS SHOW YOU WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT ANWR and they are right, these ARE photographs of ANWR. |

|
WELL THAT’S NOT EXACTLY THE TRUTH. Do you remember the map? The map showed that the proposed drilling area is in the ANWR Coastal Plain. Do those photographs look like a coastal plain to you? WHAT’S GOING ON HERE? THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE, THAT IS NOT WHERE THEY ARE WANTING TO DRILL! BELOW IS WHAT THE PROPOSED EXPLORATION AREA ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE IN THE WINTER. |

|
AND THIS IS WHAT IT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE IN THE SUMMER. |

|
HERE IS A SCREEN SHOT FROM GOOGLE EARTH. |

|
OH! AND THEY SAY THAT THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE EFFECT ON THE LOCAL WILDLIFE. HERE IS A PHOTO (SHOT DURING THE SUMMER) OF THE DEPLETED WILDLIFE SITUATION CREATED BY DRILLING AROUND PRUDHOE BAY. DON’T YOU THINK THAT THE CARIBOU REALLY HATE THAT DRILLING? |

|
There’s plenty more to this e-mail, but we think you get the idea. |
Oil hits a new high as Democrats sit and do nothing
June 27, 2008
I hate to say it, but why are Democrats, who control both houses of congress, dragging their feet on solving this energy crisis? As oil hits a new high today (over $140 a barrel as we write this), why don’t our elected representatives do something about it other than preach “conservation”. We will put forth several questions:
- Could it be that environmentalists are running the party?
- Do Democrats want the public to suffer with record gas prices so they will win the election in the fall?
While the oil issue is a non-partisan issue that affects everyone, it seems that Republicans are the only ones talking about a solution and energy independence. Today’s e-mail alert from Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is sounding the charge to DO SOMETHING to lower energy prices and move toward independence.
He says: The stakes couldn’t be higher.
Right now there’s an incredible debate happening in Washington — one that shows the clear contrast between two competing visions for America.
The liberal majority believes higher taxes, more government regulation, and a “gradual” increase in gas prices is an acceptable energy policy.
On the other hand, my Republican colleagues and I are working to ease the burden on all Americans by working for solutions to our energy challenges. In fact, I introduced a bill yesterday that would increase domestic energy production and promote new technologies to reduce our dependency on Middle Eastern oil.
But the liberals are upset. They’d rather play the blame game than get something done for the American people.
Isn’t that the truth? While Republicans are looking at ways out of this mess, Democrats are blaming everyone but themselves for the crisis. Doining nothing is not an option. Mitch needs your support. Go here now and make a small donation to help keep him in office. While he is not our state’s representative, we fully support his campaign and have donated because he has answers!
House wastes time trying to blame dealers for gouging at the pump!
June 24, 2008
In another move of collosal ignorance and a complete waste of time, the House of Representatives tried to avoid doing something serious about gas prices. Instead they unsuccessfully tried to pass a “price gouging” bill. Even though they have had hearings with oil companies and concluded that there has been no gouging with the higher prices, our leaders insist on dragging their feet about doing something meaningful that would truly lower gas prices… like domestic drilling.
AP reports today, House Democrats failed Tuesday to resurrect a bill to punish price gouging at the gas pump, while maneuvering to block Republican attempts to expand offshore drilling, an idea gaining in popularity amid $4-a-gallon gas prices.
Now why would Democrats do this? Is it because they don’t want to lower gas prices for us? Are they really for high gas prices? Maybe. Or is it because much of their campaign contributions come from environmentalist lobbies? I predict if they go home for the July 4th recess without doing something significant, Republicans are in a great position to own this issue. Regardless of the party, something needs to be done now to lower prices at the pump.
Though our energy policy should be non-partisan, Democrats have made it so they are on the losing end of the argument by insisting that conservation will lower prices. The party talks about change, but after over 20 years of failed energy policies, spearheaded by those who oppose domestic solutions like the Sierra Club and other environmental groups, theirs are the same old failed policies.
Rush Limbaugh makes our point!
June 18, 2008
Rush Limbaugh made the point today that we have been making since we started this site. The oil crisis is a problem that is easy to understand because it hits all people at all income levels when gasoline prices rise at such a high rate. And nobody has to explain why it’s happening. No matter what Democrat leaders are saying that drilling won’t lower the prices, people know that’s a lie and it is going to hurt them if they don’t change their position soon. High oil futures prices caused by dependence on foreign oil is the problem. And why do we have this? Because we are not supplying what we could be because of our failed energy policy.
George Bush (HERO) has tried to get drilling opened in ANWR over the course of his presidency, but the time was not right because gas prices had not hit the all time highs that they have recently. Finally people are fed up, and now is the time to make energy independence a national cause. So let’s applaud those politicians who seem to get it:
- George Bush
- John McCain
- Congressman John Peterson
- Congressmn Chris Cannon
Let’s hope we get to add the names of some Democrats as we go along. They tell us they are for change (we need a change in our domestic energy policy from conservation to exploration, that’s for sure), and they say they are for the little guy. Well, who do we think is hurt more by high gas prices, the rich or the poor?
Rush said this today:
Last night and today, we finally have an issue, an issue that represents a goal for the United States of America: energy independence, drilling for our own oil and our own natural gas. Finally, the president of the United States is willing to lead the charge on this. I know you can say, “Yeah, where has he been the last seven years?” He actually has proposed drilling in ANWR. He hasn’t gone all the way, but he finally has now. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth and say, “Yeah, where’s this been?” We finally have, ladies and gentlemen, an issue that can rally people — a simple issue that’s easy to understand. This is easy to understand as the House Bank scandal was easy to understand. We don’t have to explain the falling dollar, or why it’s happening and how to get the dollar back up We don’t have to explain.
All we have to do is say: “Four dollar gasoline, $4.10 gasoline, $135 per barrel of oil, supply and demand.” Everybody knows that we are not bringing up as much as we have and if we brought more of our own up, the very people that are demanding energy independence are standing in the way of it… It’s easy to understand. Case has been made. This is the time, just like it was during the illegal immigration debate, for elected officials in Washington to hear from you about what you think. We already have the Gallup showing 67% of the American people want to start drilling. Last night, the brilliant Barack Obama said there is no way offshore drilling will lower prices right now. The Democrat Party is digging in and they are going to oppose this. They’re going to oppose energy independence; they’re going to oppose advancing technology.
They’re going to oppose the economic growth of the country. They’re going to oppose your prosperity. They’re going to oppose all of that by standing in the way of this. Now, let’s take this statement made by Obama: No way offshore drilling will lower prices right now. Wow, praise the sky! What brilliance! The messiah has spoken. Delivered with the authority of a great leader: There’s no way offshore drilling will lower prices right now. A tingle goes up the leg of the Drive-By Media. But wait a second, wait a second. You know what, folks? There’s no way alternative energy will lower prices “right now.” There’s no way CAFE standards on automobile mileage will lower prices “right now.” There’s no way an excess profit tax on oil companies will lower prices “right now.” Does he even know what he’s talking about? Who’s putting the words in this puppet’s mouth?
Right on, Rush. Read the rest of the transcript here.
