You Already Know This – OPINION

June 14, 2010

Lynn Woolsey called for a “progressive resurgence” in a Hill blog article today. Who the heck does she think got us to this horrible mess in the first place? Look who has been running government for the past 3+ years! Besides, there really hasn’t been time to have a real conservative resurgence… yet. Maybe she is looking into the future and what November will bring.

The problem with progressivism is that, just because it sounds like a good idea doesn’t mean the federal government should be doing it or spending money on it. After all, their track record of success is pretty bleak no matter how noble they think their causes are.

The original founders saw the USA as a collection of individual countries (states) united under one limited federal government so that we would not end up where we are today; top down central planning. Instead they saw a country with a small federal government and strong state governments. Yet here we are 234 years after the Declaration of Independence, and we are exactly where they feared we would be; huge federal government (much more powerful than King George was?), unbridled deficit spending, freedoms being incrementally taken away in the name of “fairness” and religion kicked to the curb (unless you are a Muslim extremist). How did this happen? Over time, that’s how.

There is only so much bandwidth and money with which to tackle all the unconstitutional laws that have been passed over the years. And then our congressmen use those bad laws which survive to serve as precedents upon which to write more bad laws. This is the reason for the Constitution. It is a measuring stick by which laws are to be written (or not). But with Federal Judges seeing it as a “living, breathing document” they have twisted the Constitution to mean something other than what was originally intended. So it would seem the problem with progressivism is that in top down planning everyone must do it the same way regardless if it’s a good idea or not. Where’s the freedom? Besides that, it is not “constitutional”.

The original idea was that each state was a unique experiment free to try different things to see what worked to solve their challenges. It was even codified in the 10th Amendment in case the original version of the Constitution didn’t make that clear. It says, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Obama and Progressives call this a “negative” right. Actually, it is exactly right (correct)… period. Each state government was supposed to decide for itself how it should be run. They could then look to other states and see what worked in order to implement or improve upon those which their constituents found favorable. Not so today. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find any area in any state that didn’t come under the rule of some bureau of the federal government.

The original purpose of the Federal Government was to solve disputes and problems which crossed state lines. Read George Washington’s biography and you will learn that he viewed the federal government as a necessary evil and loathed the thought of it. He knew what “progressives” would do if given half a chance.

Examples of the founders intent for responsibilities of Federal government would be building and maintaining bridges between bordering states, or regulating commerce on shared waterways that touch several states. Two of the things the federal government is actually supposed to do, defending our borders or protecting our freedom overseas, are the same things Progressives complain about spending money on. They say we should be spending the money here on infrastructure or education. As in debt as we are, we probably shouldn’t be spending the money anywhere!

If you want to see the failures of progressivism you only need to look at states like Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Hawaii or California and cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit, etc. to see that the progressive experiment doesn’t work. High crime and high unemployment are the norm for liberal bastions such as these. Yet what happens when Lynn Woolsey talks about how we need a progressive resurgence? Socialist ideologues come out of the woodwork and praise her, even though she and her buddies have spent us into the poor house thanks to progressives. Those people will never be persuaded to see the truth.

It is my belief that the majority of people in this area are liberal because they can afford to be. Things are pretty good for many people in Marin County. Fortunately, the high unemployment rate in California hasn’t really hit the San Francisco Bay Area yet… yet. Does that mean we should wait until it gets worse before we do something? Unlike an Obama administration spokesperson, we are not looking for a crisis to use to our advantage. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that to change people’s minds.

What we must do is seek out the reasonable Democrats, the patriotic ones who love our country and believe the party has left them, and turn them to our side like Reagan did. There are common sense, patriotic people on the other side who don’t like what their Democratic Party has become. They may not change parties, but they can be persuaded to vote for a candidate who wants to lower taxes to stimulate the economy and help businesses create jobs, among other ideals that will truly embody progress.

Liberal Papers, Marin IJ and Press Democrat Support Halliwell – Judd is Favorite of Conservatives!

June 2, 2010

It’s no surprise that liberal papers like the Marin Independent Journal and Santa Rosa’s Press Democrat have thrown their support behind Mike Halliwell, a two time loser to unseat Woolsey. However, conservatives and business people have thrown support behind newcomer Jim Judd in hopes of making real change that will bring back conservative values in northern California!

Here is an Editorial from the PD and the link to it online

EDITOR: The Press Democrat’s recommendation of Mike Halliwell as the 6th District Republican primary choice is not a surprise considering what’s at stake come November (“A debate,” Editorial, Thursday).

This will present an opportunity for badly needed change to fight the flood of entitlement programs that have been and will continue to be foisted on a tax weary public, and we will need the leadership of a realist such as Jim Judd.

I’ve known and done business with Judd for more than 20 years and have seen this businessman guide his company through three recessions, including the current one. The “most conservative elements” that The Press Democrat pins on him are in fact the core values that have helped him manage this and that all Americans should possess: family, national pride and fiscal responsibility.

I’m sure Halliwell may have these same values along with some political experience, but his presentation of them has failed to unseat Woolsey the past two elections. Why throw this real chance for change under the political bus with the same old rhetoric?

Judd understands what has brought us into the liberal quagmire and has the leadership skills and understanding of what it will take to get us out of it with his real world views.

Arizona Passes Law that is Constitutional – Obama Says It’s “Misguided”

April 25, 2010

Newsmax: PHOENIX — The Arizona House on Tuesday approved a bill that would draw local communities deeper into the fight against illegal immigration despite arguments from opponents that it would do nothing to keep people safer.

House Republicans advanced the measure on a 35-21 party-line vote. The Senate approved the bill in February but must concur to changes made in the House before sending it to Gov. Jan Brewer.

Supporters celebrated the bill as a tough crackdown on illegal immigration that will protect the state from violent criminals.

Arizona’s struggling economy has driven many illegal immigrants from the state. But as the economy rebounds, “so too will the illegal immigrants — larger, stronger and more destructive than they were several years ago,” said Rep. John Kavanagh, R-Fountain Hills.

“We need to put this law in place now so that when the new illegal immigrants come, we’re prepared to do battle with them,” he said.

The measure would create a new state misdemeanor crime of willful failure to complete or carry an alien registration document. It would allow officers to arrest immigrants unable to show documents proving they’re legally in the country.

The proposal also would ban so-called soft immigration policies at local police agencies. It would allow people to sue if they feel a government agency has adopted a policy that hinders the enforcement of illegal immigration laws.

The provision is designed to target law enforcement policies that prevent officers from asking people about their immigration status, but opponents worry it will make victims and witnesses scared to work with police and prosecutors.

“This is a false hope for the people of Arizona. It’s a false sense of security for our neighborhoods,” said Rep. Chad Campbell, R-Phoenix.

The bill is sponsored by Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, who is one of Arizona’s loudest voices opposing illegal immigration.

Tuesday’s vote demonstrated Pearce’s political power at the Legislature and underscored the pressure on Republicans to support crackdowns on illegal immigration. The measure won support from all 35 House Republicans, including a handful who said they had serious concerns with the legislation.

“This bill is filled with problems, huge problems. But more importantly it will not stem the tide of illegal immigration,” Rep. Bill Konopnicki, R-Safford, said before adding that he feels “obligated” to support the bill anyway.

Konopnicki said the best way to address illegal immigration is with fences, electronic surveillance, air support and more border patrol agents.

Poll: Chuck surges, catching Carly

April 22, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — DeVore for California today responded to the release of the Capitol Weekly/Probolsky Research poll on the Republican race for U.S. Senate in California, in which Chuck DeVore and Carly Fiorina are shown to be in a statistical tie. The poll, with a margin of error of +/-3.7%, showed Tom Campbell with 31%, Carly Fiorina with 17%, and Chuck DeVore with 14%. These numbers continue the polling trend in this race, with Campbell essentially flat, Fiorina continuing her steady decline, and DeVore continuing his steady rise.

Chuck DeVore said, “The story of my campaign has been the story of a slow and steady rise in voter awareness and enthusiasm. California’s Republicans are realizing that I am the only proven conservative in this race — and the only one who can beat Barbara Boxer. With this poll, my rising support finally intersects Carly Fiorina’s falling support. It won’t be the last time we overtake a rival between now and November.”

Leisa Brug Kline, DeVore for California campaign manager, said, “Chuck DeVore continues his climb in the polls first and foremost because he’s a strong candidate with an outstanding record. But he also benefits as Republicans turn away from the failing effort of Carly Fiorina. Her campaign is now in crisis: not only is she tied with us, but her FEC reports from the first quarter of 2010 reveal a financially troubled operation that is — when backing out the Potemkin village of the untouched self-loan and the massive unpaid debts — nearly half a million dollars in the red.

“What’s all that money gotten her? Nothing. That’s an operation that’s crumbling under its own weight; and it’s one that, for all its pretensions of facing Barbara Boxer, won’t make it past June 8th. Rumors are swirling that Fiorina is set to sack many of her high-priced and ineffective consultants, but it’s too late. There’s only one direction left for Carly for California: downward.”

Joshua Treviño, DeVore for California communications director, said, “In November 2009, Carly Fiorina became a conservative for the first time in her life. She insists it’s a genuine conversion, and now she has the opportunity to prove it. If the conservative vote is divided between a surging Chuck DeVore and a foundering Carly Fiorina, California’s Republicans face the real danger of nominating the pro-tax, pro-spending, pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage Tom Campbell. Conservatives must unify against this threat. In that light, we invite Carly Fiorina to end her candidacy and support a winning conservative: Chuck DeVore.”

The Party of No – OPINION

March 30, 2010

Look at some of the things they have tried to outlaw or legislate out of existence in order to say no to freedom and personal choice.

  • No to health care choice (everyone must now have health coverage or pay a fine). As we know, health insurance companies will be “starved” out of existence by having to compete with a government entity that doesn’t have to earn a profit. Experts say they have about 3 years before the government will be forced to step in and offer a public option… something Obama and Pelosi wanted from the beginning.
  • No to following the immigration laws that are on the books with amnesty.
  • No to smoking and tobacco products, though look at all the entitlement programs that are being funded by the taxes levied on them. What happens when everyone finally stops smoking? Where will the money for those programs come then? (If you are patting your wallet right now, you would be correct.)
  • No to gun ownership, but I am told that even the most liberal of our representatives (Woolsey, Boxer, Feinstein and Pelosi) all have carry permits. I wonder if there is a way to get this information through the Freedom of Information Act? Of course, as we also know from our reading, the rules apply to us, not to them. That’s why there is a push to get a 28th amendment passed.
  • No to trans-fats (Democrats in some states have passed this ban) as if trans-fats are the only thing that are making us unhealthy. And as if we will live forever anyway.
  • No to salt (Same as above) which has been responsible for high blood pressure. You’d think politicians, knowing the health care system will be overburdened, would welcome death in any form… Sorry if this is politically incorrect!
  • No to fast food, especially for children. We have an obesity problem. Does anyone else wonder when poor people are shown on the television they are all overweight? I usually associate poor with malnourished. I guess being fat doesn’t make you nourished. But it certainly doesn’t make you a Biafran baby either.
  • No to choice of vehicles people drive as in the case of trying to raise mileage standards so as to put SUV and big car manufacturers out of business. Everyone should be driving an electric car… however, where will we plug them in if they won’t develop nuclear, let us burn coal, dam up rivers for hydroelectric. We saw what happened to Boone Pickens’ wind farm experiment. Even with government subsidies, he has given up!
  • Here in Marin, they are saying No to PG and E in order to set up a second tier bureaucracy to run our power systems. Remember, PG and E is already regulated by the Public Utilities Commission. Now they want to lay another level of red tape on top which they “say” will lower our costs. Remember, PG and E will still have to manage their resources for the Marin group, so where will the cost savings come from? And what business has the government run right? I asked that question last week and am still waiting for an answer.
  • No to petroleum.
  • No to  nuclear power.
  • No to coal.
  • No to hyrdroelectric.
  • No to LOWER TAXES.

The list could go on. Any time liberals and “moderate” Republicans get an idea of what’s best for us (as in John McCain’s bill to control supplements) they are saying no to Freedom! To buy Sudafed I have to give them my driver’s license so they can record my name. It’s the same with many other so-called “over the counter” medication. Are they over the counter or not?

Make no mistake, reasonable people of all parties understand the process of how our economy works, and they are well aware that saying no to the free enterprise system only hurts our country. I have talked to several people who are leaving the health care industry while they can to find a job in another sector before there is a mass exodus from the sinking ship. After all, we have seen the kind of people who end up working for the government… which is what the health care industry will become, a wholly owned and run government program.

So when you run into that rabid liberal who starts calling you the party of no, lay into them with some of these facts or any others you can come up with. It may not change their mind, but you might feel better knowing the facts are on our side.

Rachel Maddow to Challenge Scott Brown in Mass.

March 23, 2010

Note: If anyone ever tells you there is no media bias toward liberals, give them this example. – FedUpEditor

From the desk of Scott Brown: It’s only been a couple of months since I’ve been in office, and before I’ve even settled into my new job, the political machine in Massachusetts is looking for someone to run against me. And you’re not going to believe who they are supposedly trying to recruit  — liberal MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow.

Rachel lives in western Massachusetts, and recently it was reported that the chairman of the state Democratic Party had apparently tried to reach out to her in an attempt to coax her into a race against me. You can read about it here.

The political season  never ends, which is why I need your continued support. While my opponents strategize on how to defeat me in 2012, I’m going to continue to speak out against higher taxes, more spending and greater government control in our lives.

I relish being an independent voice in Washington, one that doesn’t march in lockstep with the rest of the Washington crowd. The Democratic Party bosses in Massachusetts disagree. They want a rubberstamp who will vote for their plans to expand government, increase debt and raise taxes. Someone like Rachel Maddow. I’m sure she’s a nice person — I just don’t think America can afford her liberal politics.

Rachel Maddow has a nightly platform to push her far-left agenda. What about you? I’d like to encourage ordinary American citizens concerned about the future of their country to get more involved in our government. I hope you were encouraged by my victory to become more politically active, maybe even become a candidate for office yourself. We can continue to push our movement forward by running for office, joining in rallies and petitions that challenge President Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s healthcare legislation, supporting campaigns against the tax-and-spenders or by donating time and money to office-holders and candidates who will restore the principles of our founders.

I’m grateful you are with me. Thanks again for whatever support you can provide me, and I look forward to joining in further victories with you down the line.

Sincerely,

Scott Brown
United States Senator

New TV Ads Tie Massive Unemployment to Lack of Immigration Enforcement

March 16, 2010

CAPS and its partners in the Coalition for the American Worker launched two new TV ads asking why the President and congressional leaders have cut job site enforcement of immigration laws at a time when at least 8 million jobs are held by illegal foreign workers and so many Americans are unemployed.

While President Obama says his top priority is jobs he apparently does not mean jobs for Americans. The Country faces the highest unemployment rate in decades. Americans desperately need jobs. Yet the Obama Administration is reducing worksite enforcement of immigration laws even though worksite enforcement opens jobs for Americans. When illegal workers are caught, they’re not often deported, which means they can take another American job. Also, the U.S. continues to admit more than a million foreign workers a year to take American jobs. Good paying jobs. Our ads ask viewers to call the White House at 202-456-1414 and tell the President that Americans want their jobs back!

One Week till ‘S.T.O.P. Amnesty in 4 Days’

March 15, 2010

Chris ChmielenskiNext weekend, 100,000 pro-amnesty supporters are expected to flood the nation’s capital to show their support for a mass amnesty. NumbersUSA mobilization has stopped every amnesty since 2000, and we’re revving up our resources to do the same this time around.

On Friday, we’ll begin our S.T.O.P. Amnesty in 4 Days campaign, but we’ll need your help to get the job done.

FRIDAY (3/19) — Day 1 is our local nationwide effort. We need you to visit your Member’s local Congressional offices at 1:30 p.m. EDT with a signed letter. If you can make a visit or have any questions, please email Jenny Magyari (JMagyari@NumbersUSA.com) with your name and please, please be sure to include your Congressional district.

SATURDAY (3/20) — Day 2, we’ll launch our faxing and petition campaign. Check your Action Board first thing next Saturday for new faxes to your Members of Congress. When the Members return to their Washington offices, we need them to see your HUGE RESPONSE. It’s also our Social Networking Day, so join us on Facebook and Twitter by clicking on the links to the right.

SUNDAY (3/21) – Day 3, the pro-amnesty organizers will host their rally on the National Mall in Washington D.C., and we’ll be there. We’ll provide a webcast of the day’s events on our homepage. Look for video leading to the event on our website early next week.

MONDAY (3/22) – Day 4, it’s our National Call Campaign, so check your Action Board for new phone notes with talking points. The pro-amnesty supporters will be walking the halls of Congress urging Members to pass an amnesty. So It’s very important to make these phone calls and have the office phones ringing during their visit. We’ll also provide coverage on our website of an immigration panel that Roy will take part in, educating Congressional staffers.

Our message will be simple. Congress should focus on putting 25 million Americans back tofull-time work, not offering an amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens, most of whom are in the U.S. workforce. Make sure they hear our message – stay tuned throughout the upcoming week to see what you can do!

Thanks,
Chris Chmielenski
